4 year old daughter told off for using the 'p' word! (lighthearted)

Evening folks
A friend (well sort of, by default as our kids are friends) minded my 4 year old for an hour the other day. On my return, her child told me that my daughter had said 'poo'. The mum responded to her by saying 'yes, but she has been told off for that'.
I was lightly bemused and taken aback, so didn't think to ask what her child calls it! It is of course no big deal and I let it go, but the mum did say that she herself wasn't allowed to use inappropriate language in front of adults as a child, and doesn't want her own to do it.
This I would fully support ... but I'm glad that's the worst my child will say, and not 'shite' for example! She has a real toilet humour at the moment, due to having older siblings, whereas her friend is an only child, so these things are easier to control.
So, was my 4 year old being unreasonable?!

my 2 both say poo. Its not a bad word here

basgetti · 24/05/2014 21:14

Poo is my 5 year old's favourite word.

wheresthelight · 24/05/2014 21:14

Why the hell is poo a bad word? Ffs some people are idiots!

IrritatedPartyOf1 · 24/05/2014 21:15

Your friend is nuts, your daughter was nbu.

WorraLiberty · 24/05/2014 21:16

Are you sure you've got it right and she wasn't told off because of the context she used it in?

"I need a poo" = Fine

"You're a poo" (when people asked to pick her toys up) = Not so fine

Lackland · 24/05/2014 21:16

Your child is completely wrong!

The word is pooh. With a 'h'. Obviously.

GiveTwoSheets · 24/05/2014 21:17

Please text her and ask what she calls it instead

TheBuskersDog · 24/05/2014 21:17

What other word would she use? I would be pissed off with her for telling her off for that actually, poo is what most people, adults and children, say.
Unless of course your daughter was using it to comment on her lunch or something Grin

NormHonal · 24/05/2014 21:19

Your friend has clearly never encountered a child of the male persuasion. My 2yo DS's "conversation", such as it is, already focuses mostly on farts and poo.

MrsChickPea · 24/05/2014 21:20

Gosh! What would you call poo in an nicer way? Can think of lots of ruder versions, but POO to me sounds fine and lovely! You sound normal and your 4 year old was being very reasonable (and probably very polite if she has older siblings and knows a few other words!).

Dieu · 24/05/2014 21:22

Thanks for replies! Daughter is fairly shy and polite, so she wouldn't have said it in a rude way to an adult. It certainly wouldn't surprise me however if she used it in jest with her pal, and the mum overheard! She finds the whole poo and 'pumping' (farting) thing hilarious.
Oh, and mum is American. Might it be a cultural thing?

Crumbs, my DS wanted to call our new baby 'pooey' if it was a boy, we are rather glad it is going to be a girl.

fridayfreedom · 24/05/2014 21:23

As a child a friend's mum told me off for saying "got". To this day I don't know what was wrong with it. Still they were rather snobby but with no reason for being so.

Dieu · 24/05/2014 21:26

Funny how we never forget being looked down on as a child, FF.

my 2yo foster boy ( who prior to coming here 2 months ago couldn't speak and never laughed) now thinks poo is the funniest word ....EVER. He used to scream when laid down for a nappy change but now thanks to a lot of ridiculous toddler toilet humour and silly faces (mainly mine! ), he now thinks life is good.

So I say poo is a brilliant word and should be used.

Your "friend" is BU!

fridayfreedom · 24/05/2014 21:29

Don't worry I'm over it now after years of therapy!!

"Mummy, can you wipe faecal matter from my backside, please"

Your friend needs to get a grip, birthday present for her maybe.
