4 year old daughter told off for using the 'p' word! (lighthearted)

Evening folks
A friend (well sort of, by default as our kids are friends) minded my 4 year old for an hour the other day. On my return, her child told me that my daughter had said 'poo'. The mum responded to her by saying 'yes, but she has been told off for that'.
I was lightly bemused and taken aback, so didn't think to ask what her child calls it! It is of course no big deal and I let it go, but the mum did say that she herself wasn't allowed to use inappropriate language in front of adults as a child, and doesn't want her own to do it.
This I would fully support ... but I'm glad that's the worst my child will say, and not 'shite' for example! She has a real toilet humour at the moment, due to having older siblings, whereas her friend is an only child, so these things are easier to control.
So, was my 4 year old being unreasonable?!

I used to call it 'properly'. That was because when I was old enough to go to the loo on my own, my mother would always ask me "Did you just wee or did you go properly" This led to me to thinking that 'properly' was what it was called. So, if we were out and I noticed some dog mess on the pavement ahead I'd say "Mind the properly" or if we were out walking in the countryside and saw a field of cows or sheep, I'd notice all the droppings and say "Ugh! Look at all the properly!" My parents never corrected me, they probably thought it was better than a lot of alternatives. Grin

Gruntfuttock.... tears of laughter! You've made my day!

Gruntfuttock · 25/05/2014 13:28

MrsChickPea the thing is, it's stayed with me a bit because frequently when I hear the word 'properly' my mind still goes back to what, to me, was just another meaning of the word. So someone might say something like "My child ate that properly" (meaning without being silly or making a mess) and I'll fleetingly think "Ugh!" Blush

Our family words were 'wee-wi (pronounced 'why')' and 'big job'. I was totally flummoxed when I heard other kids at school talking about number ones and twos...and now it seems it's wee and poo. I like wee and poo - good friendly words :)

Actually reading my post again, it would be more likely that a parent would say to a child "Now, sit down and eat properly" but I was just trying to explain how "the other meaning" has never left me.
