to wonder whether anyone actually finds hipster beards sexy?

Not the man wearing one, obviously they are all individuals and sexy in their own right and their mothers love them But the whole look, especially when taken to extremes of irony. Is it a thing like dungarees or Uggs for women, that people do for comfort and lack of hassle, and don't care what the opposite sex thinks? Or is there a total PHWOAR factor that I am missing?

Sorry but they just remind me of Emily from little Britain or Eurovision's Conchita...

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 23/05/2014 13:34

What's a hipster beard?

Any beard is gorgeous except a ZZ top one.

StoneFoxMama · 23/05/2014 13:37

I think if he sang at the animals they would turn and maul him (tuneless, makes him less godlike, bless him) now I have the lumberjack song in my head.

StoneFoxMama · 23/05/2014 13:38

Guardian readers are preferable too!

DenzelWashington · 23/05/2014 13:42

Short beards only for me. Hipster beards are for twits.

ebwy · 23/05/2014 13:46

Dunno what's hipster and what's not ( and care less)

But my very bearded housemate won't grow his long enough for me to plait and that's most unfair!

Fram · 26/05/2014 18:39

ooh- this thread has made me realise why I enjoyed Hinterland so much... must have been subconsciously leching at all the men with their lovely beards, sigh.

Hmm- I am actually going to London later this week. Where do all these lovely beardies hang out then? I don't suppose they're around the science museum or NatHistMus? Thought not Sad

SweetPenelope · 26/05/2014 19:28

I think men with hipster beards are saying "I'm happy being single: I don't need a girlfriend".

TinklyLittleLaugh · 26/05/2014 19:59

I'm with Hey on the Yorkshire Ripper associations. Also had a psycho primary teacher in the seventies who used to beat us with a plimsoll. He had a lovely Jesus style beard and melty brown eyes. Unsurprisingly I have always been attracted to clean shaven, blue eyed blondes.

BrokenToeOuch · 26/05/2014 21:08

I hate all beards, hipster or otherwise. I cringe if anyone bearded kisses me. In my head they're scummy and unhygienic. Sorry to anyone who has one!

OnlyLovers · 27/05/2014 09:37

Fram, Hackney/Dalston/Shoreditch/Stoke Newington. Also the BFI cinema on the South Bank. Probably not so much the Science Museum or NHM, no. But you might find some old-fashioned geeks at the former. Good luck! Grin

Come to think of it, Imperial College and the Royal College of Art are near the museums. Perhaps there'd be some young beard activity round there?

squoosh · 27/05/2014 11:09

Beards haven't been hip for about two years now.

Fram · 27/05/2014 13:14

Thanks onlylovers! I could probably wangle a sidetrack to the South bank, not so much Shoreditch Grin

Will definitely have to come in to science museum from Imperial direction... though likely too young for me Sad

Where are the older beardies then?

OnlyLovers · 27/05/2014 13:43

I don't know. I think the Hackney and South Bank ones are from 20s to 40s at least, though, so quite a range.

Happy hunting! Grin

tethersend · 27/05/2014 13:49

I love a beard.

I live in AchinglyHipEastLondon, and it's making the wall-to-wall wankers bearable as they all look lovely Smile

tethersend · 27/05/2014 13:51

Not as keen on the 1930s haircuts doing the rounds, though.

squoosh · 27/05/2014 13:58

Oh I love a bit of vintage mugshot chic!

squoosh · 27/05/2014 14:00

I prefer the dapper chaps in this mugshot

Love beards Grin

Goatees less than other sorts though

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 27/05/2014 14:08

I love hairy men. Bloody love all the young beardy blokes wandering about with tattoos. Makes my grizzled old soul very happy. Yes, a fair amount of them are probably unbearably pretentious and annoying, but I'm only windowshopping in the shallowest way possible so who cares. Smile

badtime · 27/05/2014 14:35

Rank, rank, rank.

I work in Dalston and I have to shield my eyes when I go out to get my lunch, lest the horror overwhelm me.

Fram · 27/05/2014 17:15

Goodness squoosh... W T O'Brien looks like George VIth! Shock

I wonder what they had done? Grin
