To wonder how many people voted for the An independence from Europe party...

..by mistake!

I am not posting this with the intention of it becoming a UKIP bashing thread (although I didn't vote for them)

I know the ballot papers are in alphabetical order so the An independence from Europe party was listed at the top and UKIP at the bottom. I wonder how many people mistakenly voted for them thinking they were UKIP without reading to the bottom of the paper. It would be interesting to know just how many votes for the An independence from Europe party were genuine and how many were actually meant for UKIP

I don't think it seemed like a similar name to UKIP at all, at least how it reads in my head.

Forgettable · 22/05/2014 22:47

No not similar to my eyes either, sorry

IneedAwittierNickname · 22/05/2014 22:49

Don't seem similar to me either.

I'd never heard of the independence from Europe party until I saw them on the ballot paper though

Imforeverwashingbottles · 22/05/2014 22:58

I had never heard of them either, I didn't receive any leaflets from them etc. It made me think if people were in a hurry or whatever they may have just glanced over "independence" and "Europe"

I did do a double take - with the logo I thought it was UKIP for a few seconds.

(No, I didn't vote for either of them.)

UKIP is UKIP starts with a U and they push leaflets at you stating their name... If you're too daft to realise that a party with a completely different name isn't UKIP then more fool you.

I voted Green

tumbletumble · 23/05/2014 07:18

The same thought occurred to me OP. (Didn't vote for either of them.)

I think it would have clear that that is the party name on the ballot paper.

We had a flyer from them through the door and scratched our heads over it for a couple of minutes, and wondered if it was a UKIP one as 'Independence from Europe' sounds like a slogan rather than a party name, and we hadn't heard of them. We couldn't find any UKIP logo etc on it so we ended up googling it to find out it is the actual party name.
