Unbelievable. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth how stony faced some of them are when the bids creep up.
A few days ago, a couple got £12,000 for five paintings that they bought for £35 at a jumble sale in 1980. The wife almost looked disappointed and unaffected. If that were me I'd be making a tit of myself on TV with joy! I'd probably cry or something.

But then I'm poor Grin

I just like watching their faces when the expert is talking:

"Well, Wilhelmina, this is an unusual piece."
(Wilhelmina tries to look nonchalant)
"I particularly like the way the cubic zirconia has been cut, it sparkles and catches the light like a diamond does"
(Slight smile on Wilhelmina's lips)
"And rose gold really sets off the Stirling silver."
(Wilhelmina starts to nod)
"Now, if this were perfect, it would be worth in the region of £2-3,000, but see this little scratch here?"
(Wilhelmina leans in expectantly)
"I'm going to offer you £100 for it."
(Wilhelmina's smile is fixed rigidly to her face, but you just know she's cursing inside)

Haha! That made me laugh! There was a lady on earlier with a trio of mini paintings... she said 'Wow!' when she was offered £250 for them. The dealer said 'I take it that you weren't expecting that much?' to which she replied 'Er... no I was expecting a bit more...'

No you weren't!

There's a good episode of Pawn Stars that I can't find on You Tube. But she takes in a Faberge brooch, $2000 for it.

He said, "I'm not giving you that for it. My conscience wouldn't let me - I'll give you $15,000".

Once she recovered, fanned herself etc

"Don't suppose you could increase that??"

Think he was disappointed he offered as must as 15k after that! Grin

*Sorry, she would like $2000 for it.
