Strong Facebook comments pro and anti political parties

Iwanttovoteukip · 22/05/2014 14:08

My personal political views mean I want to vote for UKIP. I am also anti the Green party due to the cockup they have made in Brighton. This is my view. I realise that other people have different views but we live in a democracy so we should all vote for who we want.

On Facebook there have been half a dozen people who have been spouting strong views that are very anti UKIP. Lots of smearing a few times a day. The said same people have been actively pro Green over the last few days.

I would never put negative comments on their comments as I don't think it is the correct medium for a political debate. However, I'm feeling 'bullied' (this is perhaps the wrong explanation) by all their rhetoric. Are they being unreasonable?

Why are you feeling "bullied"? Are the comments directed at you? Are you feeling defensive about your choice?

GardeningPerchance · 22/05/2014 15:01

I'm with you OP. I'm absolutely SICK of all the anti UKIP/pro green rubbish ALL over facebook. It's the same small group of offenders, and it's absolutely constant. I haven't said a word on there, because I don't want to spend the next six weeks having the whole things shoved ever further down my throat, not because I do or don't support anyone! I do wonder if all the pro greens realise they have put me off EVER voting green due to not wanting to be associated with their evangelistic rubbish. It's not just me either, I heard a thing on R4 the other day, Evan davies investigating why, even when the pro greens shout louder and LOUDER and LOUUUDERRRRR, opinions for UKIP keep going up......If they could stick to what makes the greens so fucking good instead of slagging someone else off I might feel more inclined to support them. And good god, a maximum of one post a day is enough!! It's spamming!!!

HesterShaw · 22/05/2014 15:11

How odd. I have seen loads and loads of anti UKIP stuff on FB and on other media, but very little from the Greens apart from one modest leaflet which I had through my door. And I am inclined to vote for them, so given that FB can generally read minds based on a few posts one makes, I'm surprised I haven't seen more of this absolutely constant rubbish.

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 22/05/2014 15:13

it IS cool to be anti-UKIP because they're a bunch of wankers..

bigdeal · 22/05/2014 15:13

ukip are the only ones people rant about , but all that ranting has just gained them 4 votes from this household .

natwebb79 · 22/05/2014 15:14

It is almost as though it is cool to be anti UKIP.

Erm, no. It's common fucking sense! Ha! Grin

Iwanttovoteukip · 22/05/2014 15:15

I'm going to try to find something on Facebook that is pro UKIP and share it on my page. I'm fed up with all the anti UKIP stuff over and over again.

OP posts:
natwebb79 · 22/05/2014 15:16

I like the quote from Stewart Lee when he basically said that a 'ptotest vote' for UKIP is like shitting in your hotel bed as a protest against the service. You may have made your point but you end up having to lie in a shitty bed. Grin

Tangerinefairy · 22/05/2014 15:21

Agree with everyone else. Yabu. People have every right to put up their political veiws on fbook. I loathe ukip and have taken delight in sharing and posting lots of anti ukip stuff. If someone dislikes that and wants to argue with me then they have every right to do so. If someone else puts pro ukip stuff up then I have a right to argue with them if I like.

pointythings · 22/05/2014 15:28

I've shared lots of anti Tory stuff too, OP. And anti-BNP stuff, anti English Democrats stuff, anti Lib Dem stuff and Anti Britain First stuff. I like variety, me.

Lovecat · 22/05/2014 15:29

My FB friends have been posting "anti" (quite often all they are doing is listing their utterly fuckwitted policies) UKIP memes for the last few weeks, with the addendum that if you disagree, kindly defriend yourself as they don't want to be friends with people who think rape in marriage is a Good Thing - is that the sort of thing you mean by "bullying", OP?

Yes, your beliefs (but seriously? You haven't answered that question about how you can support a party that is so anti-women) are being disagreed with, but it's not being done personally, it's just making you feel a little uncomfortable for being (thankfully) in the minority - how is that bullying?

As for those people on this thread who are saying they're now going to deliberately vote UKIP because everyone's bashing them... erm... are you sure you're actually old enough to vote with a bloody ridiculous attitude like that? Or are you afflicted with ODD? Confused

Surely you vote for the party who has the policies you agree with most/dislike the least. If you don't like immigrants, think everyone should be one homogenous "British" culture (that has never existed), that health and safety legislation is a waste of time, that women's rights don't matter... well, vote UKIP. But be prepared to defend yourself, because you are going to come across to most people as one atrocious cunt.

Sirzy · 22/05/2014 15:40

I am anti UKIP - if people have a problem with me being anti UKIP I have no problem with them deleting me from Facebook.

PixieofCatan · 22/05/2014 15:46

pointy Grin

Green haven't cocked up that badly in Brighton, though the speed limits bollocks is starting to get on my nerves guess whose area has just gone to 20mph but, like somebody else said, there's been more attention to their cock ups because they aren't one of the major parties, so they have to be singled out and made an example of.

UKIP are twats, and if people on my FB disagree they can defriend themselves.

BuggerLumpsAnnoyed · 22/05/2014 15:49

I also think it's very important that people share information on UKIP. A lot of people agree with on half baked policy like leaving the EU but would be horrified to realise what the're actually voting for. I've actually talked to a few people who were thinking of voting UKIP, but have changed they're mind when they found out more. Personally i think any right minded person has a duty to let as many people as possible know what fuck pigs they are.

OneStepCloser · 22/05/2014 15:49

If you put your UKIP support on as your status I'm sure lots of people will de friend you, problem solved.

BuggerLumpsAnnoyed · 22/05/2014 15:50

*a lot of people agree with them on a few half baked policies. Sorry duno what happened to that sentance

SirChenjin · 22/05/2014 15:50

I posted very strong sentiments on the Better Together website, explaining why the SNP are a shower of incompetent liars who shouldn't be in left in charge of a piss up in a brewery. If any of my friends took exception to my views then I would happily accept their defriending.

SmiteYouWithThunderbolts · 22/05/2014 15:51

I cannot understand why anyone in their right mind - who has thoroughly read UKIP's policies and seen the madness contained within - would really see them as a good use of their vote. I just can't.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 22/05/2014 15:53

Yes, I would defriend and distance myself in real life from anyone that put up pro-UKIP stuff, so go ahead, let your friends see you in your true colours.

Out of interest, if not FB, then where is the correct medium for political debate

Davsmum · 22/05/2014 15:54

I have seen quite a lot of pro- UKIP on facebook - along with some really stupid, ignorant bigoted comments, I may add!

FreeSpirit89 · 22/05/2014 15:56

Unfortunately all this "UKIP voters are racist" buisness. Will not stop people voting UKIP it will just cause them to do so privately.

Personally I wouldn't unfriendly anyone over their political, or religious views. I have a few friends who post stuff about turning meat eaters veggie, but I enjoy the other points put across and like to be reminded everyone is different.

It's just another way for people to judge and look down there noses at people. I have seen a lot of modern day with hunts with the politics in the last few days.

Sirzy · 22/05/2014 15:56

I cannot understand why anyone in their right mind - who has thoroughly read UKIP's policies and seen the madness contained within - would really see them as a good use of their vote. I just can't.

I think most people who are voting for them havent, they know their views on immigration and Europe and thats it

GiveTwoSheets · 22/05/2014 15:58

Even those running political parties slag each other off, trying to score points on each others fuck ups.

Your posts sound like your ashamed to admit your voting ukip to your fb friends, Mind you i would be to hence why I didn't vote for them today

Joysmum · 22/05/2014 16:58

I am anti ukip because of SPECIFIC issues. Their economic spokesperson wants to reduce pensions! I can't possibly agree with that. That's without the racism and misogyny.

I will post my views based on SPECIFICS, if those wanting to vote UKIP think that the bad stuff is worth ignoring, thats up to them but there are a greater proportion of negatives to positives, more than any other mainstream party and pretending otherwise doesn't make it untrue.

magpiegin · 22/05/2014 16:59

Of course YABU, they are not bullying you as the posts are not directed as you. I would probably unfriend someone who voted UKIP as we would have less in common then I thought we did.
