to think my postman hates post with a burning passion and therefore should possibly have chosen a different job?

Every bloody piece of post he slams through the letterbox is screwed up, creasing it in all different directions. I don't mean just folded over to get through the letterbox, I mean properly screwed up. Even things much smaller than the letterbox get scrunched up. Why?!

If I had ever had a conversation with the guy I would assume he hated my guts for some reason. The force with which he slams it through the letterbox makes me jump out of my skin every time, and I'm pretty fed up of it all being so crumpled.

There is just no need for it and I'm actually contemplating making a complaint.

I think he must have some pretty strong political views too as a leaflet for the Labour party was actually screwed up into a proper ball a couple of days ago.

It's not on is it? Would you say something or just put up with your mail being delivered in that state?

Maybe your letter box scares him?

Is it one of those weird sideways ones?

NoMontagues · 20/05/2014 21:49

Do you have brushy draught-excluder things on the inside? We have those, and the postman now just scrunches the post through them resulting in accordion shaped post which may or may not stay lodged in the letterbox until I get home from work.
A friend of mine used to work as a postman and apparently if you are evil enough to have brushy things then you fully deserve this treatment. Ditto people with ankle height letterboxes.

Was the previous postie OK ?

We have a slot on the door. I hate that set up, the mail sprays all over the living room. Hmm

steff13 · 21/05/2014 03:48

My brother and SIL have a door slot, and if they're not paying attention, their dog will destroy the mail the minute it hits the floor.

OP, I'm cracking up at the idea of the mailman trying to "stick it to the man," by crumpling the mail before he delivers it. Like a one mailman rebellion. Do you know if your neighbors are having the same issue? I'd maybe ask them before I complained, in case it's an issue with your specific slot.

I had a BNP leaflet through the door yesterday. I really wish our lovely postman had ripped it to shreds.

Have you tried posting something thru your letter box? Is it one of those that rips the skin off your knuckles? Maybe changing it would help?

Koothrapanties · 21/05/2014 08:18

Completely normal letter box, no draught thingy or anything. He just hates me doesn't he?

We have only been here since January so I don't know if there was a postie before him.

I'll ask the neighbours.

Mine hated me after I complained about them leaving a parcel in the rain on top of my mailbox over Easter instead of inside it, ruining a book, I was less than impressed and still ain't, they didn't care and denied it was them. This reminds me I am still waiting for the replacement

Koothrapanties · 21/05/2014 09:02

Maybe the person who lived her before pissed him off somehow.. he just seems so angry!

We had a postman who used to leave everything shoved halfway through the letterbox, holding it open and providing a convenient ramp for rain water to cascade down on to the carpet.

Admittedly, the flap was very stiff to push open. I finally complained when one of the things left sticking out was a cheque book (this was a few years back, when we still had such things), just there for anyone to make off with. I think there was a form to fill in on the Royal Mail website. The problem stopped immediately and never started again.

We used to get all our birthday cards ripped open at the bottom, I assume looking for cash. We complained and he got dismissed.

psychicpaper · 21/05/2014 12:30

Have you tried to post something through the letterbox yourself, just to check that isn't the issue.

Postmen generally have better things to do than screw up post, especially as that makes it harder for them to get it through the letterbox.

I imagine if the postman really did have a vendetta against the previous occupant of your house, he would have noticed the name change when you moved in.
