To visit GP with Breast Lump

As I am sure it's just nothing. However deep down I must be concerned as I've not slept properly.

Back story

Father recently died suddenly. Grieving and stressed and super busy at work.

At the end of last week I treated myself to an aromatherapy message and lady commented my 'right arm/pit' was different to left. She recommended getting checked out.

For several months now I have been waking with back pain if laid on back and chest wall pain if laid on side and generally achy painy around shoulders - just thought age creeping up on me to be honest.

This weekend had a feel about chest & back area where it's been hurting and found a lump near the chest wall. DH had a feel (several times over the weekend) and confirmed definitely a lump. Strange thing is difficult to feel if standing, more prominent when laid down on back.

It's upper right breast, near chest wall. Feels flattish, firm and about 15mm in diameter.

I realise I am doing the right thing in going to GP this morning before work.

I'm really hoping it's not anything sinister :(

I have only just come across this thread. I know we all like to moan about the NHS but there are times when they come up trumps.

Such a great outcome for you, such a relief!

Thank you so much for all your positive comments. I have a spring in my step I haven't had for a while (it's been a difficult few years what with one thing and other).

What I didn't mention in my earlier most as I was too overwhelmed with boobygate was I am already under hospital for gastro/bowel issues. I have a disease (not life threatening but can be life limiting at times) and also complications from a previous hysterectomy.

In regards to these on going issues I had an appointment yesterday (at the same hospital) and they confirmed I had a rectocele amongst other things. So further tests are ongoing but feeling generally fabulous now Boobygate is over with Smile

Thanks Cake Wine Biscuit Brew all on me Smile.

You MN crowd are awesome xx

This is a lovely thread and everyone who has shared has been so positive, it makes cancer seem a little bit less daunting. Flowers for all of you.

Minny it sounds like you have had a really tough year. I hope you are looking after yourself as much as you can.

Hi Ladies

AIBU to request a MRI or fine needle biopsy under the following circumstances.

I've noticed more changes in recent weeks. My left boob that had 'thickening' now has developed a lump/ridge. The nipple is also kinda distorted. The left side of left boob feels 'hot' in comparison to rest of boob. When I contacted the breast clinic - as they instructed me to do when I saw them in May if any further changes - they said my case was now closed and to go via GP, whom I saw yesterday. They referred to Breast Clinic and my appointment is next Wednesday.

Since I was seen in May I have done a little research and dense breast tissue makes mammo's a little useless in spotting anything sinister. Also they only used ultra sound on right boob in May and not on left.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed by all this and have a sense all isn't well this time.

Thank you in advance.

xx

Im actually shocked that they haven't given you a biopsy.

I have friends who have experienced both benign and malignant breast lumps but all had biopsies.

Does your lump 'move'? Ive been told that dodgy ones are often stuck fast and won't move when massaged by your hand.

londonrach · 09/10/2014 10:09

Back to gp today op but please dont worry. Thinking of you xxxx. most breast lumps etc are harmless but worth getting it checked. The recent changes since may could just be hormones etc My mum has had breast cancer. All sorted now. Im sure you have nothing to worry about but get t checked x
