I'm currently studying. I go to the uni library to work without distractions.

Every time I go someone comes in with a massive bag if something crunchy, pop corn, crisps, whatever.

It makes me want to scream, all I can hear is them masticating, chomping with there mouths open rustling there stupid packet.

I tolerate 5 minutes before I strop off in a passive aggressive sulk. Would I be unreasonable to assume they're all just massive bellends?

Sorry about the typo, their obviously not there. The lack of study time is showing.

I'd just be hacked off that they were using the library as a picnic area - yanbu!

InMySpareTime · 18/05/2014 20:15

I get annoyed when I borrow a library book that has obviously been read with foody fingers. Crumbs in the margins or chocolate I really hope it's chocolate Blush on the pages. Ewww, that's why food and libraries don't mix.
Find a matronly librarian and tell on the munchers, it's the decent thing to do...

I'm glad I'm not being just being cantankerous.

No, that's gross and very inconsiderate.

Grrr! Angry

I feel your pain OP.

I graduated in 2001 and things had definitely deteriorated when I went back to do a postgrad. The "library" seemed to largely be for socialising and people were on social and fun sites, taking up all the space. The books, such as they were, seemed incidental (I know e-journals, yadda-yadda)

Libraries should be silent places and anyone incapable of understanding that should be shot. Wink You should only be allowed water!

And this was a Bastard RG university! Biscuit

Good luck with your studies/exams
OP!ThanksBrew

I work in a university library. If noise us disturbing you please tell a member of staff.
In my library it's impossible to see or hear all of the library so we don't know there is a problem unless someone tell us.
Good luck with your exams!

Any food in any part of a library is a hanging offence. YANBU.

writtenguarantee · 19/05/2014 09:39

it's a library. Not a picnic area. Food crumbs etc are bad for book storage too. A water, perhaps a coffee or tea, at most in the library.

MissMogwi · 19/05/2014 09:49

YANBU. This used to give me the rage when I was at Uni. And the talking! Er, it's a library, shut it!

Luckily I was a good ten years older at least than the majority of the offenders, so a 'mum glare' often sorted the problem.

I got yelled at by someone I gave the stink eye to, when they ate an apple in the loudest way possible in a uni library.
It was DISGUSTING, not helped by my utter hatred of eating noises in the first place, but this sounded like a pig in a trough.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 19/05/2014 10:15

Oh this is all about 'inclusion' and making libraries accessible to people with no interest in using it as a library. All to do with funding and keeping them open... and this is the result. Mad-eyed, food-chompng yetis who cannot function without eating something every minute of the day... Hmm

You are NOT being unreasonable OP. Grin
