Tattoo quote

AIBU to think this is suitable to use this quote for my DS's tattoo "All that I once was, all I could be. When I've forgotten baby you remind me. "

My friend said due to the word baby i should consider another choice is she right? Confused

Is it a tattoo for your son you mean? In which case 'baby' does tend to make it more for a partner than a child, though it could work without the baby in there anyway.

I have 'To find you I look inside my heart' in elvish on my wrist. Very few people know what it means. If you are happy with it though then that should be enough.

WhistleTopTomato · 16/05/2014 19:11

What's the context, OP?

RandomInternetStranger · 16/05/2014 19:16

I don't quite understand - are you getting that tattoo'd on you about your DS?

In that case he IS your baby, and probably will be forever - my parents still think I'm a child at 37, my grandmother still treated my mother as a child at 60, and I still call DD my baby at 8 and have no intention of stopping within the next 20 years! Grin

As the owner of 12 tattoos and counting, they are a very personal thing and you really should ignore anyone else and do what you want and will be happy with, regardless of anyone else's opinions, it's your body and you have to live with it. I see my tattoos like little diary entries from the last 20 years - there was the boy band era, the travelling the world era, the teenage screw up era, the grown up beauty era, the first baby, the terrifying abusive hell, the break for freedom, the acceptance of the status quo, they are all marked on my body and are all special to me in some way. Some have been done over, some have been lasered down to fade then something else put on top, I have more planned, just do what you love and is special to you.

DuckyMoDuckyMoMo · 16/05/2014 19:16

Before I found out I was expecting DS I smoked, drank, did drugs and my life was on a downwards spiral I didn't care for anyone or anything.

As soon as I found out I was pregnant I stopped everything and haven't touched a cigarette, drink or drugs since the day I found out. We both nearly died he stopped breathing and I had a cat-1 c-section and went into cardiac arrest but we came through it, I never had much hope for my life but now I want to better myself for DS.

I would be getting it for my DS with his dob, weight and time

If you like it, then go for it! :)

BerniesBurneze · 16/05/2014 19:23

Go for it

diddl · 16/05/2014 19:23

I think that baby sounds odd.

Sounds better to me without tbh.

Or "son"?

At the end of the day though, your choice.

Hemlet · 16/05/2014 19:29

I think that's wonderful and a lovely quote to mark your skin xxx

GayByrne · 16/05/2014 19:31

I like it OP. My children will always be my babies - I don't care how old they (and I!) get.

Do not forget your punctuation though.

All that I once was, all that I could be...when I've forgotten, baby, you remind me.

I know it's from a song (is it Believing? - will google) but the above it correct, I think.

DuckyMoDuckyMoMo · 16/05/2014 19:32

GayByrne yes it is from believing! Smile

I just need to design it now have no laptop so this shall be hard!

OP posts:
MrsTerryPratchett · 16/05/2014 19:35

Agree with Gay that without the punctuation, it doesn't make as much sense as you would like.

Bloody good for you BTW, and your small person.

StrawberryGashes · 16/05/2014 19:38

When I first read the quote I had to read through your post to double check you were talking about your son and not a partner, sorry. How about this instead:

"All that I once was, all I could be. When I've forgotten, my baby, you remind me. "

Montegomongoose · 16/05/2014 19:39

I generally feel a bit (inwardly) sneery about tattoos, but this

I never had much hope for my life but now I want to better myself for DS

has brought a little tear to my cynical old eye.

Get your commas in, and go for it!

RandomInternetStranger · 16/05/2014 19:39

I have a quote in Arabic because it is personal to me and I don't want prying eyes on it. When asked I say it says "one falafel to go and a side of humus please." Grin

Angelto5 · 16/05/2014 19:39

Wow what a lovely quote. it doesn't matter what other people think. I want another tattoo but not sure what 2 have. Would love 2 see a pic when you've had it done.

CarpeJugulum · 16/05/2014 19:40

Saw one once which sticks in the mind. A young woman in a coffee place bent down to pick up a coin she had dropped and revealed a swathe of her lower back. Being a gentleman I looked away but not before I had seen tattooed in letter about two inches high:

YES THIS FUCKING HURT

A journey to the outer limits of stupid?

iggymama · 16/05/2014 20:49

Would it work with your son's first name in place of baby?

DuckyMoDuckyMoMo · 16/05/2014 21:03

It's 3 syllables and 11 letters long so not really

OP posts:
SistersOfPercy · 16/05/2014 21:10

Carpe, there are a few translation sites online and there are elvish dictionaries as well, mine are in Sindarin elvish and with the help of this site I translated it then checked it all over to be 100% certain.

If you need a hand or want anything translated PM me. I can translate Dr Who Gallifreyan as well with the help of a little computer program and that is beautiful as it's an intricate series of circles, lines and like 'cogs'.

I also have a Smaug on my foot with 'I am fire, I am death' in elvish underneath.

Adsy why open a tattoo thread if you so obviously dislike them?

DuckyMoDuckyMoMo · 16/05/2014 21:22

Sister

How did you design your tattoo?

I know the font I like but my laptop died so can't do it on the computer and crap at freehand haha
