...to ask what you refer to 'privates' as in front of your DCs?

I know a couple whose DCs say 'willy' and 'fanny', whereas I always called mine a 'front bottom' when I was little!

I generally use the real names of things, though DS1 prefers to use willy and "those ball things underneath" for his own genitals.

thegreylady · 15/05/2014 16:26

My family all use willy for male genitals and thanks to mn the girls appear to say fanjo!

lordStrange · 15/05/2014 16:28

willy or penis

snitch for vagina

WallyBantersJunkBox · 15/05/2014 16:33

Vagina. Anything else is just too twee I front of DS.

Penis and testicles as he is in hospital a lot for scans at the moment.

I have been known to throw in the occasional "twig & berries" when we are joking about.

Ronmione · 15/05/2014 16:33

We call them wildly and vagina. I went on child protection course and they stressed the need for children to know the correct name so if anyone touched them in appropriately the person they told would be able to understand what they were saying

SarcyMare · 15/05/2014 16:33

my boy has a willy and bottom my girl has "girl bits" and bottom, she is 3 and being a complete pedant i don't want to teach her the incorrect medical terms for her bits (sorry a personal soap box your vagina is an internal organ and i hope at 3 she doesn't know she has one)

farewellfigure · 15/05/2014 16:36

We call it willy or bits and pieces. DS calls it winky or peanuts thanks to learning those phrases from his little friends. He asked me what his balls were the other day. He thought it might be his bladder!

Sallystyle · 15/05/2014 16:39

Vagina/vulva
Penis

My dd's sometimes call it their Gina though.

somewherewest · 15/05/2014 17:14

We just use the normal names (penis etc), which did lead to our 2yo informing the HV that he had a penis this morning Grin. He also pronounces testicles 'testycones'. I think cutesy names just convey the idea that genitals are something to be vaguely ashamed of.

NutellaLawson · 15/05/2014 17:21

ashamed? I'm not ashamed of my tummy, my noggin or my bellybutton. Nor my tootsies, my peepers or lugs.

nicknames are common for body parts. I hate the word vulva (too much like volvo, which the grandparents drive. Would surely lead to MORE confusion not less, and potential child protection misunderstandings).

FreeSpirit89 · 15/05/2014 17:25

I'm sorry Nutella I lol'd at the Volvo/volva comment.

I have a DS and his is a winky, or willy. I have no daughters but I used to say pinky when I was small

Susyb30 · 15/05/2014 17:35

Tinkles and flowers :-)

TheScience · 15/05/2014 17:37

Willy and vulva.

gordyslovesheep · 15/05/2014 17:37

penis and vagina (yes I know it's technically not ...)

whynowblowwind · 15/05/2014 17:42

Privates or private parts.

If my DS says his privates hurt we know what he means!

HecatePropylaea · 15/05/2014 17:44

penis, testicles, vagina, vulva... just the most commonly non used not euphemistic terms, really.
Not that we spend a great deal of time discussing it all, you understand. Grin

HecatePropylaea · 15/05/2014 17:48

Hmm I don't know what went wrong there.

most commonly used non euphemistic terms.

AryaOfHouseSnark · 15/05/2014 17:52

There have been loads of these threads the past few days, not saying that as a dig op, just an observation. There often seems to be a weekly topic theme, cat poo, p and c parking, yada yada yada.
Vulvas amd Willys yada yada yada.

We call ours Vulva or Vagina and Willy.
Dts say Gina or bagina and Volvo Grin

AryaOfHouseSnark · 15/05/2014 17:53

I don't think that makes sense, sorry I was eating the chicken skin checking on dinner and got distracted.

HavantGuard · 15/05/2014 17:54

Other ranks?

Objection · 15/05/2014 18:20

bingo!

nokidshere · 15/05/2014 18:21

If we are having a conversation about bodies they get the proper names. On a day to day basis they are just "bits".

I am 53 years old and I have never heard anyone calling them penis, vagina or vulva to a child in a normal day to day scenario! As long as they know what they are it doesn't matter what you call them as far as I can see.

Brabra · 15/05/2014 18:29

Sarcymare, why shouldn't a 3 year old know they have a vagina?

SarcyMare · 18/05/2014 21:44

brabra i hope she hasn't been poking around down there sticking her fingers inside herself, it isn't where she wees from or poos from, so it has no purpose at her age, so no reason to bring it up,in conversation. Boys know they have willies because they stick out

DrizzlyTuesday · 18/05/2014 23:17

Vulva/'Gina and Willy/Penis. She's 2.
