Got off to the wrong foot on the other thread.

I see lots of people buying diet drinks as the nutritional information says they are virtually the same as water.

Do most people still think these drinks are healthy?

I'm diabetic so will die from aspartame poisoning for sure Hmm oh no, wait, I can just drink water my whole life and as a treat stick a needle in my stomach again so I can have some fruit juice....

PaintedLady2014 · 14/05/2014 20:06

Fuck Diet Coke...sorry but it's minging

I'd rather have Fat Coke occasionally....

Owllady · 14/05/2014 20:06

Diet coke is the least of your worries. Unless you live in Surrey or something

stillenacht1 · 14/05/2014 20:07

Diet Coke is DISGUSTING - fake, lemony bitter after taste. Fat coke all the way :)

gordyslovesheep · 14/05/2014 20:07

I like the taste Mintyy - we are all different ...

Mrsmorton · 14/05/2014 20:08

spotty one of my regular aspartame nutters says that you get the same insulin reaction from diet coke as you do from fat coke. In your extensive experience of your blood sugar, please could you confirm whether this is correct Smile as I'm wholly unconvinced. Thank you.

nobodysbabynow · 14/05/2014 20:08

Mintyy, can you identify a drink that isn't full of chemicals?

Tinkerball · 14/05/2014 20:10

For all the people who think diet coke is disgusting there will be an equal amount who love it....its called having different tastes.

thenightsky · 14/05/2014 20:10

I prefer diet version of tonic with my vodka. Perhaps I should just drink neat vodka Confused

SpottyTeacakes · 14/05/2014 20:11

Diet coke with no insulin injection = no change in blood sugar levels
Full fat coke with no insulin injection = high sugar level which, over a short time will cause ketones and eventually death Grin

I prefer Pepsi Max really if I had to have a brown drink. Give me fanta zero any day!

ProfessorBranestawm · 14/05/2014 20:11

Aw, have I missed a good artificially sweetened popcorny thread? What was the original one?

(I'm bored)

nobodysbabynow · 14/05/2014 20:13

And can anyone explain why the debunking of mythsabout aspartame doesn't seem to stick? I don't drink diet or full fat fizzy stuff btw, so no axe to grind - I just don't like to see the 'evil chemicals' stuff. Are there still people out there complaining about flouridation as well?

'Aspartame is a highly studied food additive with decades of research showing that it is safe for human consumption. As expected, the research is complex making it possible to cherry pick and misinterpret individual studies in order to fear monger. But the totality of research, reviewed by many independent agencies and expert panels, supports the safety of aspartame.'

I don't think diet drinks are healthy, but they are better than the sugar filled alternative imo.

gordyslovesheep · 14/05/2014 20:13

'fat people are all fat bastards' Professor or some such bullshit - OP does like to post then fuck off run

she's brand new to MN as well - who'd have guessed Hmm

gordyslovesheep · 14/05/2014 20:15

Aspartame hasn't damaged me yet ...fluoride has damaged my middle childs teeth beyond repair :(

Mrsmorton · 14/05/2014 20:16

Yes people still think fluoridation is a way that the CIA will control us or some such.

I love diet coke, used to be full on addicted. I occasionally have a binge now but otherwise in moderation!!

33g of sugar in a can of fat coke? No fucking thank you.

Mrsmorton · 14/05/2014 20:18

Really beyond repair gordy I've been a dentist for ten years and never ever seen fluorosis beyond repair. Even from some African countries with huge amounts of naturally occurring fluoride. Can you say a bit more about it as I'm genuinely interested.

Mrsmorton · 14/05/2014 20:18

Sugar making tooth beyond repair? Absolutely ever single day of my career so far.

Comingfoccacia · 14/05/2014 20:19

I gave it up. It wasn't easy but I did it. Bye bye Pepsi Max. I adored you once but you're full of shit and I feel so much better now you're out of my life. I've been getting on really well with good old Tap Water.

Mrsmorton · 14/05/2014 20:20

coming that will be all of the cocaine in the tap water.

MrsSpencerReid · 14/05/2014 20:20

Spottyteacakes can I high five you? Is that ok on here?! I'm with you on this. Diet coke or an injection? I know which I choose

VodkaJelly · 14/05/2014 20:21

I was addicted to full fat coke, addicted to it.

I am now addicted to Pepsi max, because I have been on a diet and cut out all full fat coke.

I may be drinking the dreaded Aspartame, but I'm not fat anymore (well abit). I dont drink, smoke, or take drugs, I eat quite healthily and go to the gym 5 times a week (still trying to lose the baby weight), so I think that being addicted to Aspartame isnt too bad in the grand scheme of things.

miffybun73 · 14/05/2014 20:23

YANBU

Does anyone really think that they are no more harmful than water?
