Just decided to google to see if there's a local food CoOP in the area having read good things about them in the past. If you;re not familiar with them, it's basically a group of people who set up a bulk buying thing where you can all club together and buy wholefoods and cleaning equipment together at wholesale prices and save a lot of money.
I found one and it was attached to a sort of focus group which deals with a few local green activities so thought great...all looks good. Called the number and a man answered with a bad phone manner in general so I asked "Is that the X Food CoOP?" and he said "Whose this?"
So I said "I;m MrsWinnibago and I just wanted to find out more about your food CoOp"
He said something about "Well you come to me or I come to you and I show you the book...then you pay 90% of your order and that's it"
AIBU to think this is odd? I explained that I'd be more comfortable if there was some sort of monthly open meeting...or if the website had more info on it and maybe even an order form and application form...but I understand this costs money so perhaps it might be better to have monthly meetings in public places where newcomers might feel better about it all?
Would you have a strange man call round and give him cash?
