New thread for all the Chalet School fans!

OP posts:
Tanith · 18/05/2014 13:52

And poor Margot giggles and is promptly sent out of the room. It's a wonder that any prefect dared!

Oh, wait a bit - it was Mary-Lou, wasn't it?

I wonder what a modern day mother would have made of the dressing down she, a mere 16 or 17 year old, gave the Triplets in 'Theodora'?

alterego2 · 18/05/2014 13:58

But Tanith - that dressing down set them on the right tracks for the rest of their lives! How could anyone complain?

DeWee · 18/05/2014 14:55

... or in Margo's case for a very short time until she nearly kills Betty with a bookend.

Tanith · 18/05/2014 15:55

...and finally realises that all her temper tantrums, selfishness, blackmailing, murder attempts must mean that she's cut out to be a nun!

alterego2 · 18/05/2014 16:39

Ive got to know - which book is this braining of Betty with a bookend in? I don't recognise it at all.

hels71 · 18/05/2014 17:33

I think it is in The Chalet School Triplets....

hels71 · 18/05/2014 17:34

Which I think is also the one where Mary-Lou's mother dies and Joey goes to England leaving the triplets in charge of the youngest children at home and Cecil gets kidnapped only to be rescued by the triplets and Bruno...

thebodylovesspring · 18/05/2014 17:47

Hello fellow chaletians. Late to the thread.

Marylou's mother dies in 'Chalet school reunion! Where Joey has a party for Grizel and she meets Dr Shepherd. Of course Chalet school girls only marry doctors/engineers/bank managers.

In 'reunion' Len falls off the cliff and Grizel saves her.

In triplets it's when Joey goes to England to help MaryLou and verity bring Doris back to the San and she's dying.

I have fine eyes that never yet have needed glasses and my greatest assert is my beautiful speaking voice.

Runs lightly as a girl into the garden.

alterego2 · 18/05/2014 17:48

Gosh - I thought I had that one. It rings no bells at all.

thebodylovesspring · 18/05/2014 17:49

Tanith but it was just her devil.

Hi from body by the way. Grin

hels71 · 18/05/2014 17:51

Ah yes, you are right, reunion I had got muddled....clearly I am not ready for my remove yet!

thebodylovesspring · 18/05/2014 17:55

jo had thrush oh my hat Robin will have the clap next.

I dont think it was thrush Jo felt but her womb sweeping the floor.

I want to be in special sixth as they have no
Prefect duties but are accorded the respect of the prefects.

Eilunedd vaugne for head I say!!!

thebodylovesspring · 18/05/2014 18:06

With little Rolf's death Madge tells them all that 'their doctor told Lydia she had only herself to blame as she hadn't taught him obedience'

How bloody cruel would that be.

Of course if Mike had fallen off the cliff after that birds nest presumably it would have been joeys fault and she would have been to Blame!!

Double standards or what EBD. Grin

Wabbitty · 18/05/2014 18:10

It would have been oral thrush - Jem gets them all to stick their tongues out to check

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 18/05/2014 18:53

Why don't we have a helpless with laughter emoticon? Grin is not sufficient for my reaction to today's contributions to this thread!

TheCSLibraryPree · 18/05/2014 19:42

Just watching Country file spring special and one of Joey's classic singing pieces was mentioned by Alex James of Blur - Summer is Uncommin in!!

WilsonFrickett · 18/05/2014 20:16

I am on my third book of the weekend! Loving it. It's best to read in a random ord my lambs, because then you don't get irritated by EBD's appalling lapses in continuity.

Ive just finished the one where Cecile gets kidnapped and Jack sedates the kidnapper without so much as a by your leave. Doesn't even do her the courtesy of slipping it in some warm milk...

Revengeofthechocolatebunny · 18/05/2014 20:33

Jack sedates the kidnapper without so much as a by your leave. Doesn't even do her the courtesy of slipping it in some warm milk...

tuts. In the book I finished today Jo fell asleep naturally before she could drink the drugged milk. I mean, what is the point of drugging milk if people will just fall asleep?

Earlier I mentioned how I didn't like the Robin. On re-reading, she is growing on me and I find her almost sweet

WilsonFrickett · 18/05/2014 20:42

Mary Lou is reallynpissing me off in a way she never did before. She's not even appeared in this one yet but she's nipping my head.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 18/05/2014 20:49

I've just finished CS and Jo. Have discovered continuity error - at one point the Saints have no boat as Miss Browne is petrified of water. Several chapters later we have a CS/Saints boat race. Hmm I was a v unobservant reader as a child!

alterego2 · 18/05/2014 22:03

I never noticed that TOIC - even as an adult. You will head the class lists this week.

A quote from Headgirl : "Her paper children were becoming real. It is only when a story tells itself that it is worth much."
Discuss with reference to EBD's CS series. For additional marks reference especially the later stories

HesterShaw · 18/05/2014 22:40

I have been very busy and can't keep up with this thread, which is almost the greatest tragedy of my life :(

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 18/05/2014 22:43

I'm entitling my essay "let's be original, whatever we do!" The later books/characters cannot have become 'real' to EBD! They follow such a distinct formula: new girl, at odds with authority; falls out with rest of form; recycled jape/scrape; Prefects Evening/Mistresses Evening (usually featuring paper games, tableaux or Mrs Jarley's Waxworks); further Middles' misdemeanours; expedition to notable Swiss site, possibly featuring a near-death experience; Sale, nativity play or St Mildred's panto; new girl declares herself a real CS girl. The End.

Toospotty · 18/05/2014 22:52

My favourite inconsistency, and forgive me if I get this the wrong way round as it's from memory, is Katherine Gordon's birthplace. In the Wrong Chalet School we're told she was born in Samoa. In a later book, someone says she was born there, and she corrects them rather patronisingly, saying something like 'no, Singapore, which is
i quite
a different matter, my child'. Obviously the idiot in question had made the mistake of relying on the earlier book!

thebodylovesspring · 18/05/2014 22:53

I always hoped Betty Wynne Davis would return to teach there in a disguise and subvert the school.

Hot milk chikabiddies? Rohipnol??
