New thread for all the Chalet School fans!

OP posts:
HesterShaw · 14/05/2014 11:08

Gruss Gott mein Madchen. Anyone know how to do umlauts. EBD neglected to let me know.

MooncupGoddess · 14/05/2014 11:14

Grüss Gott, Hester Grin

Hmm, 11.10, just time for a large bowl of milky coffee.

JonathanGirl · 14/05/2014 11:14

Ü

Perhaps we should petition MN for a Chalet School Topic Wink

Summerbreezing · 14/05/2014 11:19

Ooh I'm so excited to be moved up. Anyone know who the Prees are on this thread?

HesterShaw · 14/05/2014 11:24

HOW?

I'm afraid I definitely won't be a pree on account of my inferior knowledge of the minutiae of Chalet Girls' lives and history :(

Perhaps I can be an irrepressible Middle instead?

Summerbreezing · 14/05/2014 11:35

Well I have an exquisitely delicate complexion that flushes easily when I'm embarrassed. (I think that's how I got into the school tbh. Haven't a word of French or German).

Burren · 14/05/2014 11:39

I'm reasonably good on the minutiae, but would fall down at the hurdle of instant obedience and the only way approved of by Matey for bed-making and mattress-humping. (Honestly, though, how many ways are there to make a bed and hump a mattress???)

Plus I would have been in the Joan Baker camp of wearing a lot of lipstick, skipping night prayers in my cubicle and cold baths, and sneering at paper games on Saturday nights. And not only would I have sworn at Mary-Lou if she started to quote Psalms while on a ramble, I would probably have head-butted her as well. Just so she knew how I felt.

Revengeofthechocolatebunny · 14/05/2014 11:39

Anyone know how to do umlauts. EBD neglected to let me know.

I can do ë (hold ALT + 137) ;)

Thanks for the new thread, SDTG!

Beeyump · 14/05/2014 11:40

I have eyes like pansies. That alone should allow me to be a pree.

HesterShaw · 14/05/2014 11:40

I think I will be the fiery haired, freckled Celt who murders languages and is a good sport and who secretly thinks Mary Lou is a twat.

Burren · 14/05/2014 11:41

Actually, humping a mattress sounds wonderfully rude. Maybe Matey was quite a different kind of woman to what I thought. All that being obsessed with girls' drawers etc etc. Grin

Revengeofthechocolatebunny · 14/05/2014 11:43

And not only would I have sworn at Mary-Lou if she started to quote Psalms while on a ramble, I would probably have head-butted her as well. Just so she knew how I felt.

:)

I always felt like shutting Robin in a coal shed. Or pushing her down stairs. Or off a tall bridge. Tying her to train tracks could impact on too many people but was considered.

birdbrain21 · 14/05/2014 11:46

ooh new thread all about chalet school Smile just marking my place, haven't really read enough of them to be able to join in all discussions but someone was talking on the other thread about how maybe joey had asthma and that's why pneumonia would have been so dangerous. I had asthma as a kid and had to have flu jab every year so guess pneumonia would have been even worse. I think despite EBD clearly not knowing anything about children I think a lot of her medical stories are probably reasonably accurate for what people knew at that time, when she wrote the early books people really weren't very medically clued up...(although coming out of a coma through someone singing is probably stretching it a little bit far)

HesterShaw · 14/05/2014 11:51

Maybe we could be in a new book? Bullies of the Chalet School or Misfits of the Chalet School or The Chalet Girls Who Refused To Like Mary Lou and Robin and Who Also Loathed Joey.

Beeyump · 14/05/2014 11:55

I think Joey's strange sway at the school was so strong that it would overpower you and, against your will, you would get excited at going to tea at Freudisham and gaining her approval.

Or maybe that's just me Blush JOEY IS QUITE FRIGHTENING, OK?

MooncupGoddess · 14/05/2014 11:56

You may be onto something there, Beeyump... anyone else here read The Demon Headmaster?

Summerbreezing · 14/05/2014 11:57

Or Lipstick at the Chalet School, The Chalet School and the bikeshed. and The Chalet Girls Go Clubbing.

Beeyump · 14/05/2014 11:58

I have! Grin Excellent comparison...

NewYearDifferentName · 14/05/2014 11:58

For whoever asked about Carola Storms, I've got it in book form and, while I was going to transcribe them in order, I could be persuaded (wine and chocolate always helps) to do them out of chronological order and start with Carola when I finish Exploits - which has been neglected for the last couple of days due to work going a bit pear shaped - I will get it finished this weeks!!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/05/2014 12:00

The Chalet School and the Illegal Still. Or Teachers' Strike at the Chalet School.

I'd love to see an OFSTED report on the school...

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/05/2014 12:03

Mooncup - on the previous thread you asked if Mary-Lou knew the Robin - I think she did - I think the Robin was a Senior, when M-L started at the Chalet School - maybe even a prefect.

OP posts:
JonathanGirl · 14/05/2014 12:04

Umlauts - I'm typing on a tablet, so I just hold down u and then it lets me choose ?ùûü or ú

Don't know how to do it on the laptop.

JonathanGirl · 14/05/2014 12:05

PMSL at Joey as the Demon Headmaster (oh, how I loved that book. And the sequel was evenbetter)

Summerbreezing · 14/05/2014 12:06

Are you sure STD? Robin was a prefect in The Chalet School Goes To It, when the triplets were only six months old. But I'm sure they were at least 5 or 6 when the family met Mary Lou, so Robin would have long left the school at that stage.

HesterShaw · 14/05/2014 12:14
