New thread for all the Chalet School fans!

I love these threads.

I'd like to read: The Robin rebels at the Chalet school

Joey woke early one morning with a start to find The Robin gazing blandly at her through her cubicle curtains. "Robin" she started speaking softly so as not to wak the others "whatever is the matter, you've not got your dressing gown on and its freezing, and get out of that draft, and....."

She was interrupted by The Robin cutting across her "Shut up Josephine. My name is Cecelia and i'd thank you to use it. I'm 11 years old and if I want to get up without my dressing gown I will. I'm not drinking any more of that awful hot milk either and no more doses from Matey. Tonight I'm going to bed with teh rest of the junior middles I'm sick of being bundled off like a kindergarten baby"

Joey gaped open mouthed then jumped to her feet pulling on her gown. She grabbed the reluctant Robin and hustled her into her warm bed. "Wait here" she commanded "I'm going to wake Freda and get her to call Matey, you're clearly delirious Robin"

"I'm not delirious and its Cecila" stated Robin swinging her feet back onto the floor.

(actually was it Cecila? I think so can't remember they always called her robin)

May try to carry this on at some point, I've always thought that Robin should have rebelled

DeWee · 15/05/2014 14:30

Cecilia Marya I think. Although I'm sure at some point EBD gets confused and says it's the other way round. Or maybe that was because she wanted the Robin to have a version of Mary as a first name like Joey's girls (except Felicity).

Beeyump · 15/05/2014 14:35

I remember being deeply troubled by the fact that the triplets all had the first name Mary.

DeWee · 15/05/2014 14:41

Yes I remember finding that strange. Without any explanation eg. Mary after Joey's mother. Joey was Josephine Mary, so didn't get why they had Mary as the first name-as did all the other girls except Felicity, who was Felicity Josephine, which as a child I felt made her look a misfit in the family.

MooncupGoddess · 15/05/2014 14:45

It's a Catholic thing, isn't it - but still odd.

JonathanGirl · 15/05/2014 14:47

I just assumed the Mary was a catholic thing, it's quite common for everyone in a family to be called Mary or was it just my ancestors?

Beeyump · 15/05/2014 14:47

Did Philippa, the final girl child, have Mary as a first name too??

squoosh · 15/05/2014 14:48

A few of my uncles had Mary as their middle name.

Wabbitty · 15/05/2014 14:53

Is it just me who always thinks of Phil and Lil out of rug rats whenever you read about Phil? (Probably yes Blush)

PosyFossilsShoes · 15/05/2014 14:53

Didn't Amy Stevens do something like a rebellion quite early on? And gets out of punishment by being angelic looking and small? And then Joey says "Amy is ceasing to be a baby and becoming a schoolgirl" and everybody gets all astonished. She's about eleven at the time, I think!

OFSTED Laughs at the Chalet School- and laughs, and laughs, and laughs

HesterShaw · 15/05/2014 15:32

Count von und zu Werthemeir. That's the name you're after.

Something like that anyway.

And the proposal came by way of Marie's father! "He has spoken to Papa about me," she tells the flabbergasted Jo, Frieda and Simone.

HesterShaw · 15/05/2014 15:34

Arse. I see I was pipped to the post with this information :(

There I was hoping to impress with my minutiae and be promoted to Pree status.

Summerbreezing · 15/05/2014 15:36

Was she still in school when she got engaged?

HesterShaw · 15/05/2014 15:38

Yes! "Engaged, mark you, while still a babe at school!"

That was Joey to Madge.

Beeyump · 15/05/2014 15:39

I imagine Marie was quite a babe.

Summerbreezing · 15/05/2014 15:40

The most beautiful pupil the school had ever had, apparently. EBD kept tabs on that kind of thing.

Beeyump · 15/05/2014 15:41

Joey, meanwhile, started out as 'goblin-like'...

Beeyump · 15/05/2014 15:42

This link is funny

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 15/05/2014 15:42

Grin at Beeyump. Yup, they are going to have a big official betrothal party in the summer after school is finished.

I spent some time reading the Wiki page about Grafs/Freiherrs/Hochgeboren etc etc at lunchtime trying to work out how aristocratic the von Eschenaus actually were, but it's v confusing.

HesterShaw · 15/05/2014 15:43

But she was never a beauty was she? Too pointed and pale. But her face had a special charm.

Marie wasn't the most beautiful ever - Wanda was.

Wabbitty · 15/05/2014 15:44

When did Joey put on her growth spurt? In the early books she was always described as short (and bony) but suddenly becomes a giant!

HesterShaw · 15/05/2014 15:45

Was it after she had pleuro pneumonia after falling through the ice trying the save Maureen the naughty Saint, who got rheumatic fever after the same incident?

Surely hypothermia would have been far more likely than a lung infection Hmm

SelectAUserName · 15/05/2014 15:53

Oh Beeyump thank you - I have never seen that site before and it is hilarious!

Summerbreezing · 15/05/2014 15:54

Oops you're right Hester. But Marie was next most beautiful. After that I think it was a punch up between Joyce Linton and Sybil Russell why do I Know these things ??

Beeyump love that link. That picture of Joey in the denim tunic and mustard polo neck was the one that originally got me thinking about the awful covers.
