To have said 'In a rush to wash that greasy hair eyy?'

Was in sainsburys today walking in between the barriers to get to the self-checkouts and tripped up on something someone had abandoned under where all the chocolate and sweets are. Then this woman walked past me and said 'excuse me hurry up this is an express lane don't you know' and I just blurted it out it was greasy though

Now fair enough that your in a rush but the space I between the bloody things could fit a rhino and the security guard told me she wasn't even actually behind me, she was to the right so it's not as if she actually had to stop!

AIBU?

Ywbu. And plain nasty.

BrianTheMole · 12/05/2014 23:00

You sound spiteful and unpleasant.

BrianTheMole · 12/05/2014 23:05

Oh ok, but you did trip up. I didn't notice that bit. Hmm, your reaction was as bad as hers. You could have said something better. Ok, sorry about my last post, you're not spiteful and unpleasant exactly, but maybe next time don't get personal.

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 13/05/2014 00:54

She was unpleasant and got some rude back.

YANBU.

bragmatic · 13/05/2014 01:01

This reminded me of my friend, who, when he was almost cleaned up by a vehicle and screamed at by the driver, said: "if you cycled more instead of drove a car, you wouldn't be such a fat bastard."

I thought that was funny and well deserved, too.

randomAXEofkindness · 13/05/2014 01:26

I think it's a bit weird that you were so quick to respond with that particular insult. Do you generally pick out what you consider flaws in other people's appearances? It just wouldn't have occurred to me to bring somebody's appearance into an argument. She was poorly behaved; this was the relevant issue; why not say something about that?

YWBU.

BillyBanter · 13/05/2014 01:52

Which supermarket did this happen in?

Can't believe no one has asked yet.

missknows · 13/05/2014 02:00

Ooo you nasty pasty

feathermucker · 13/05/2014 02:39

Yes, you really were U.

Surely you can see thatHmm

BubaMarra · 13/05/2014 09:00

Personal insults are plain nasty.
However, I just cannot understand the situation in which one person is about to get physically hurt and the only thing other person finds appropriate to say is 'Move, this is fast lane'. No checking if the person who was about to fall is alright, no offer to help, nothing. If OP had actually fallen, I guess she would have just moved her body to the side with her leg so she could go on with her business.

Birdsgottafly · 13/05/2014 09:19

Why has no-one asked the OP where she lives?

I've had stand up similar arguments in Tesco's, but even in the rough bit of Liverpool that I live in, you don't get these situations in Sainsburys.

I wouldn't have gotten personal until much later on, I would of started off in my best School Head voice, reminding the other person about manners.

It is much more effective.

Birdsgottafly · 13/05/2014 09:20

""Which supermarket did this happen in?""

Sainsburys!!!

Somepercentagenotcool · 13/05/2014 09:24

billy it says in the OP it was Sainsburys!

I can't believe you said that to her. Apart from being unkind, it's just a really crap and unwitty insult. I can just imagine a sound of tumbleweed after you said it.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 13/05/2014 09:33

While op's comment was mean, the lady was also extremely unpleasant to tell a person who'd tripped to hurry up!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 13/05/2014 10:41

Why is someone's weight fair game for nasty comments like this, Bragmatic? I am fat - is it OK for people to make horrible comments to me too?

I am sick and tired of people who think comments about people's appearance is OK - and even tireder of people who think it's funny to comment on personal appearance. It's not funny.

No, the driver shouldn't have cut up the cyclist - that's not acceptable, but making personal comments won't teach him to be a better driver. And if he was overweight, he would probably struggle (as I do) to take exercise.

Summerbreezing · 13/05/2014 10:45

There is a definite irony on here regarding the number of posters who are making pretty nasty and personally insulting remarks towards the OP, whilst also berating her for making personal remarks to someone.

Some posters on here really need to practise what they preach.

Summerbreezing · 13/05/2014 10:46

Sorry, thought my post from last night hadn't worked and have just repeated myself above Blush

Objection · 13/05/2014 12:54

Why would the OP post this on here?
It's not so much an AIBU as a "look how big and clever I am" which is nasty in itself.
I stand by the idea that the OP must have been holding up the woman before the tripping incident because otherwise it is a completely bizarre thing to come out with. Doesn't excuse it of course.
