So handy, so comfortable, so versatile, so good at hiding a multitude of sins........ Sad

It's a much derided look on MN, but I think it can look really nice if you're bit on the large side.

JamJimJam · 11/05/2014 17:57

God, that Wallis one is gopping.

Rivercam · 11/05/2014 17:58

I love that top!

PuppyMonkey · 11/05/2014 18:11

If you really were cool you wouldn't give a shit.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 11/05/2014 18:13

I don't give a shit.

Ergo I am cool.

FishCalledWonder · 11/05/2014 18:32

I think people often say 'cool' but mean 'young'.

Would a 19 year old wear a tunic from White Stuff? No. Doesn't mean it can't look good though.

TequilaMockingbirdy · 11/05/2014 18:37

Describing a look as 'mumsy' and therefor BAD is really misogynistic language
ODFOD.

No, it's just the outfit the majority of the school mums around here decide to wear. That's why it's seen as a 'mumsy' outfit. Just because it isn't in fashion doesn't make is misogynistic to say so.

goldencity1 · 11/05/2014 18:41

Who gives a shit about being "cool"?
I wear what I like, and if that is a long top over jeans, so what?

Luckily I am no longer a teenager, so don't worry about what others may think!

Joules68 · 11/05/2014 18:49

I think the tunics are supposed to be longline, so suit slimmer figures better. Nothing worse than seeing a distorted and bunched up top that's fitting badly, it disguises nothing. I think they look ok with leggings tho.

Kaftans are still 'in' aren't they? Think they are quite flattering for most women

usuallysuspect · 11/05/2014 18:50

'In fashion' What does that even mean?

TequilaMockingbirdy · 11/05/2014 18:56

I'm not sure I'm not the best person to speak about fashion to be fair Grin

colleysmill · 11/05/2014 19:01

I've found the coolest people tend to wear what they want and feel comfy in. If it suits you and you like it just wear it. Life is too short to spend feeling like you've either raided your teenagers or mothers wardrobe. Find your look and wear it with confidence.

If it helps I still dress a bit like an extra in the Parklife video. I only own trousers that are either boyfriend style or massive flares. I even bought a new bandana this weekend Axl Rose stylee. I care not a jot :)

SirChenjin · 11/05/2014 19:10

I think the fact that 'mumsy' is used (usually in patronising tones) to describe a look rather than what a certain group of women wear is what people often object to. I remember reading one woman (who frequents the Style board) saying that she would "rather be mutton than mumsy" - that, to me, sums up the kind of attitude to 'fashion' (ie the kind of look people slavishly follow regardless of whether or not it's a shit look) that some women on here have - ie, that 'mumsy' is the absolute worst look imaginable Hmm.

ShelaghTurner · 11/05/2014 19:34

Cool my arse, who cares. But I really hate the disparaging mumsy comments and would like to punch people who stoop to that. Hmm

mellicauli · 11/05/2014 19:40

Cool is just a marketing concept facilitated by young people's lack of self confidence, their obsession for being part of the "pack" and cruelly excluding others for arbitrary reasons.

If you are not young, you don't have to participate if you don't want. Your peer group will like you tunic or not unless your friends are dicks, of course.

Hulababy · 11/05/2014 19:47

I'm 41y. I think my days as "cool" are gone tbh. Instead I wear what I want to and feel happy to do so.

I leave the cool and what's in fashion to my 12y instead.

Bunbaker · 11/05/2014 19:49

Well said mellicauli

Are some adult people so shallow that they judge you for not being cool?

I know teenagers do it all the time, but I am talking about people who have left compulsory education here.

BCBG · 11/05/2014 19:56

Can someone link to floaty tea dresses, then? I fancy trying a boho style and ditching the jeans but I can never find the sort of thing that others wear so well - if it has a pattern I usually look like I'm wearing a curtain! I'm 165cm and size 12 but its being 53 is the problem Grin

BCBG · 11/05/2014 19:57

Please?

Bodicea · 11/05/2014 20:31

Rogan josh i used to consider myslef pretty "cool" but recently bought two wallis tops!! They are very flattering though!

Summerbreezing · 11/05/2014 20:42

Oh God. I meant to start a light hearted thread about a flattering fashion that I want to cling on to forever and ever. Didn't realise the word 'cool' in the title would rub so many people up the wrong way. No I'm not Edina Monsoon, honestly Smile

I will keep this look alive, don't have to worry about my fly's coming undone.

grocklebox · 11/05/2014 20:51

Fashion is merely an instrument of control to make women feel ugly, unworthy, and to buy lots if shit they dont need in a vain attempt to feel as if they fit in with whatever bizarre look a couple of male designers and aging stick thin magazine editors have decided is this seasons thing.

Fuck that for a game of soldiers. Buy and wear whatever you like.

alemci · 11/05/2014 20:54

or vpl or my tummy

NickiFury · 11/05/2014 20:58

Only on MN is that not a cool look. I live in West London and all the older teen girls and early twenty something's wear them, usually with ankle boots and messy hair, they look beautiful.
