Can anyone briefly summarise or pm me?

Thanks

Is it because LA is white, middle class secretly quite posh and Katie Price is an ex topless model and not safely middle class? (I don't want to use the ch-v word, it's really grim.)

Who knows? Having met both, I prefer Lily Allen to Katie Price.

Price has admirable qualities but I found her too angry. Ironically, her anger, or willingness to confront people who have done her wrong, is one of the things I admire about her. But in reality, it's wearing. I was not her enemy and I resented being regarded as such, just as she has every right to resent people for prejudging her.

That's probably the root of Jan Moir's enmity towards her too.

Allen probably had a difficult upbringing too. Though not the same.

My upbringing was dull - my parents loved each other, they stayed together until death, they treated each of us equally and with love, I got on with my siblings despite the odd spat.

It's the recipe for a well-adjusted adult; but maybe not for a mad over-achiever.

Maybe I should be blaming my parents for being so nice to me. If they'd been horrible, I bet I'd be much more successful in my career.

Maybe not so successful as a human being though.

limited - did KP just talk endlessly about sex too? and in a very crude way.

WhereDoAllTheCalculatorsGo · 09/05/2014 18:52

Completely agree with nennypops, above. Just what I was thinking, more more eloquently than I managed

rabbitrisen · 09/05/2014 18:57

I dont think that MN or posters can assume that if say a MIL is slagged off, that said MIL hasnt the means to sue.

What sort of poster reports threads? Who cares so much to do that? Unless you are the celeb in question or working for them. Do some posters really feel so protective of people in the public eye? Goodness, you either have a lot of time on your hands or you're a much worthier person than me. I couldn't really give a stuff.

It's like when there's a gunfight and people start yelling "I've reported you!". They may as well write "I'm telling my mum!".

Nancy66 · 09/05/2014 19:06

you can't sue people for having a view or opinion on something or for making what would be considered to be 'fair comment.'

Eg: 'If Lily Allen didn't have well connected parents she'd never have been famous.' is fair comment

'Lily Allen shagged the head of EMI to get a record deal' libellous

ToffeeMoon · 09/05/2014 19:07

I mean bunfight. If there's a gunfight, it's probably ok to report it.

The thread about slebs that annoy you was deleted the other werk for not beingnin the spirit of mn or some such nonsense .
I'm sure all the millionaire film stars are sitting at home reading stuff written about them on MN and crying into their Dior hankies Hmm

Mintyy · 09/05/2014 19:24

Well I'm afraid I simply don't know what celebrities are for then if they don't want to be the subject of discussion. Why do we need them and why do they promote themselves so hard?

MNHQ tend to delete anything negative about the McCanns and Peaches Geldof, so there has been censorship on here for quite a while.

Mintyy · 09/05/2014 19:29

I can understand it about the McCanns though - entirely different.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2014 19:30

Could it be the reports are for the sake of MN's reputation and not the sleb's?

Mintyy · 09/05/2014 19:30

Yes, but what if we're not buying?!

I am getting more and more incensed about this! Do I have to love Lily Allen or any other celebrity? No I bloody well do not.

I have to say the Lily Allen thread being pulled was a surprise and the 'spirit of mumsnet' stuff sniffs of sycophancy, especially as other 'clebs' get a far worse slagging on these boards without the thread suddenly going boom.

The deleted thread couldn't be described as pro-Lily Allen by any stretch, but contained nothing (as far as I can remember) that was libellous or anything that Lily Allen hadn't put into the public domain herself such as her drug use. Doubly odd when MN allow speculation about ongoing court cases to go unmoderated.

The fact some people complained shouldn't itself trigger a deletion, especially if the complaint is as spurious as 'they're not being nice to my favourite d-list celebrity.' Such complainants should be ignored or politely told to 'fuck off and get a sense of perspective.'

The difference is that you are not in the pub with your friends.what is published is up to mumsnet.

True, but then as users we shouldn't accept their decisions blindly or adopt a 'nanny knows best' when it comes to deletion, especially when the deletion policy it is inconsistent/nonsensical.

Serendipity30 · 09/05/2014 20:27

I am surprised at MHQ to be honest, normally they delete particular posts, and put warnings but to delete a whole thread, really? I think there is more to this, I only read a bit of the thread in question when it was initially started and there was nothing that that Iavnt seen before in the posts, maybe it changed later on. However I object to the thread deletion, as if we am subjected to L.A's music, pictures and videos (or any other sleb's) we have a right to comment on it, by the way
I luuuuurve Lilly Allen Wink

Hmmmm, I think Peter Andre is a tool of the highest order but some of the stuff that has been said about him on here (eg basically he is an out and out abusive husband) is worse than what was on that LA thread and non of that stuff ever got deleted for not being in the 'spirit of mumsnet' Hmm

Pipbin · 09/05/2014 20:39

Here is an easy thing. Ignore Lily Allan and she goes away. Just like any slebs. If you don't read about them then none of it matters.

limitedperiodonly · 09/05/2014 21:23

Here's a radical notion.

I propose we ignore people who tell us stupids what to do.

Starting with pipbun sic.
