AIBU to really judge parents smoking in cars with babies?

I've been thinking about this more in light of the proposed law change. Was parked up at the supermarket the other day waiting for DP and was shocked to see a woman parked next to me with a very little baby in a car seat puffing away.

As a non-smoker from a family of non smokers, it's something I've never understood. The knowledge about passive smoking in kids is immense so why would you?

My MIL always lights up and smokes just before getting in the car - I hate this because when she puts it out and gets in, we still get the fug and smoke in the car (and she'll be asked not to when we do have kids) but at least it's slightly better than just puffing all over the baby.

AIBU?

Only if they don't offer the baby a drag of the cig. That's just selfish and rude.

Mintyy · 08/05/2014 18:40

No, I think its fine for people to smoke in cars with babies.

YANBU!!
How people can smoke around children i have no idea. Do they not understand how dangerous it is!! My inlaws smoke and i have always taken my dd away from them when they smoke as i don't want dd to see them smoke.
It should be seen as abuse to smoke in the same room or car as a child.

aperson I know not only smokes with baby in car but also has the loudest drum n bass blaring in the car (usually weith closed windows) with baby in car.

poor baby must be deaf as well as choked.

Its illegal here to smoke with anyone under 16 in a vehicle, you just never see it any more.
I hope something similar to this is applied in the UK

jeanmiguelfangio · 08/05/2014 20:24

I didnt think much of it, until my husband smoked in the car, and I saw how much ash went in the back seat. This was all pre-dc. I was so surprised at how much went in the car not out the window. Now there is no way I would have a smoker smoking in the car with my dd.
I dont mind if people think im judgy on this one, I wouldnt have it with my child

Lets do the time warp agaaiiinnnnnn...............with a step to the left........YANBU xN

TequilaMockingbirdy · 08/05/2014 20:32

I don't think anyone I've ever spoken to would see smoking with a baby in the car as reasonable. Yet so many people seem to do it.

passmethewineplease · 08/05/2014 20:34

YANBU but do you even have to ask?

Of course it is unreasonable to subject children to second hand smoke.

It's disgusting.

WyldChyld · 08/05/2014 20:50

That's why I'm asking. I think it's disgusting and inappropriate but you see so many people doing it that you end up wondering if you're just being arsey. I'm glad to see people agree!
