Not quite the same but DW and I renewed our passports this year; mine took seven and hers ten days from payment to the plop on the doormat.

So do they only take payment when they're processing it/ happy with everything there?

I had a text to say that they had it and would be in touch if they needed anything.
It took about two weeks from taking payment to getting the passport.

It's been signed as I sent it special delivery before 1pm but I've received no text. Stupidly I forgot to write down the barcode number

I sent ours away 5 weeks ago. Payment came out 12 days ago. Still waiting for passport but expect it should arrive within the next week

My DD's took 4.5 weeks, her friend's sent at same time only 2.5. Phone up if it's urgent, they can expedite it, I didn't have bar code and they said loads of people don't. The helpline bed to refer you to someone else if you don't have barcode. It did take 5 days to get a callback though, by which time it had been delivered. It's really frustrating. I was told cheque might be taken even though they're still processing it - it took 2.5 weeks after cheque taken for us but only 5 days for friend.

Well fingers crossed it's soon then I hate waiting for passports to arrive it's the most nerve wrecking time

We sent off for 4 passports in January. The payment for all 4 was taken (individual payments) within a week. 2 passports (for the DCs under 16) were back within 3 weeks. DH's passport (a renewal) took about 5 weeks and DS1's (first adult passport) arrived on 30th April Confused.

I'm not sure how it works TBH.

DuckyMoDuckyMoMo · 06/05/2014 23:05

how long ago did you send it? I sent my daughters off for a name change last week and haven't received a text. Looking at other posts people generally a text within 3-4 days to say its been received. Tomorrow will be 7 days..so if I don't get a text today ill be calling to see whether or not they have it....sent it by check and send so im not sure why I haven't heard anything yet to say they have received it

DuckyMoDuckyMoMo · 07/05/2014 18:14

Nikki I sent it Thursday was there Friday money came out yesterday he said if the money's come out it's been received the text service is having hiccups so loads of people aren't getting them. The post office should of given you a tracking number so you can track it online and see if it's been signed for.
