Bastard sky box

JosieMcDozie · 05/05/2014 19:42

Isn't working. And since I've buggered about with it, trying another box (which didn't bastard work either) the sound now isn't working either now so can't even watch recorded stuff. And bastard Apple TV won't work with my antiquated bastard iPad.

Aibu to put the sky box on the fire??

Very: it would give off toxic fumes.

PhantomMenace · 05/05/2014 19:45

Are you sure it isn't the HDMI/SKART cable rather than the skybox?

JosieMcDozie · 05/05/2014 19:47

But surely there would be pretty colours in my log burner and a sense of victory??

What's wrong with your Apple TV? Are you using the apple app or xbmc?

HoneyDragon · 05/05/2014 19:48

Have you checked you Bastarding cables? Two boxes being bastards seems more unlikely than other other bad tardily goings on at sky's end or your cables.

JosieMcDozie · 05/05/2014 19:49

I think it's actually the dish that needs realigning, but it's near the top of the house about 30ft up. I've obviously not already tried to reach it with washing line pole

Jordabro · 05/05/2014 19:49

Throw the bastard thing at the face off the bastard who gave you it.

HoneyDragon · 05/05/2014 19:51

What were your symptoms of bastardness? In case we can help?

ICanSeeTheSun · 05/05/2014 19:51

02071267020 should be a local priced number to sky i think, not used it for a while so may not work

JosieMcDozie · 05/05/2014 19:51

Csi - I've just tried to use it via air player with no success - works for pics, but not iplayer. Might retrieve it from the fire and have a bash with other catch up channels.

My sky was playing up so I climbed a ladder and hit it with a broom

It doesn't work at all now and they want a bastard call out fee of about £85 Sad

If it's just the sound, I'd say it's probably a loose lead in the back of your box.

poorbuthappy · 05/05/2014 19:54

I almost threw ours out this morning too.
Took 5 attempts at software update to sort it out.
I almost had to do the hard update and lose all recordings and series links.

It was a close call. Smile

ilovepowerhoop · 05/05/2014 19:54

have you tried the troubleshooting bit on the sky website? It tells you things to try before telling you to phone and then they run through more things to do with you. First thing you always do is switch the power off to the box and then after a minute or so switch it back on to reboot.

CSIJanner · 05/05/2014 19:55

Are you trying to run iplayer via the iplayer app to AirPlay? If so, try streaming iplayer through the website then select airplay.

JosieMcDozie · 05/05/2014 19:55

Jordabro, would love to but the bastard has gone to work.

Honey, freezing, sticking and then coming up with no signal message, then technical fault, then coming back on and freezing, sticking ad infenitum ....

Have you turned everything off including the router and then turned it back on again?

HoneyDragon · 05/05/2014 20:14

Erm, ours did that. We thought it was static build up, in the leads.

Turned out to be water in the leads outside.

Engineer blew up 4 replacement boxes in a roe before he twigged it was their own shonky installation job though Hmm

JosieMcDozie · 05/05/2014 20:14

Csi - just tried to run through iPhone 5 and it came up with 'an error occurred loading this content try again later'.

Oh fuck off all of you utter electronic bastards.

Have now resorted to Wine and chocolates.

Bastard diet down the drain now too Angry

JosieMcDozie · 05/05/2014 20:25

Ooooh, sound now back on - picture still fragmented, but can at least watch recorded stuff now settles down with wine and matchmakers

Worra I would cancel your sky subscription and then phone up for anew one as I was having a bank holiday walk through the shopping centre today they told me they were fitting them for free at the moment we already have them though!

WorraLiberty · 05/05/2014 21:27

Thanks for that info x2boys, it's handy to know.

I said to my DH I'm going to ring them tomorrow anyway and tell them I've been with them 19yrs, it's costing us £68 per month and if they insist on making me pay a call out fee, we'll cancel and go with Virgin.

But I'll point that out to them too Grin

NeitherTheChimeNorThePlace · 05/05/2014 21:36

Apple make Tv's!?

I'm so behind the times.

UncleT · 05/05/2014 22:08

Don't throw it in the fire - smash it to pieces with a large hammer and mail them the bits to Sky. Then, tell them to take their rip-off TV and shove it.
