I say boy racer but the guy next door is in his 40s and bolding.

Why do they feel the need to modify their old crummy cars to make them as noisey as possible.

It annoys me that his car makes my flat and its windows rattle. Can hear when hes on his way back for a good 30 seconds before he arrives.

OP posts:
Pipbin · 05/05/2014 08:48

DH and I were saying that the other day. I kind of understand modifying your car, putting fins on etc but why make it so damn noisy. There is no need and it is inconsiderate to everyone else. Also, why is there the need to play shitty music full blast and with the windows open? What reaction are they expecting from everyone else?

IdealistAndProudOfIt · 05/05/2014 09:10

Time to share a little story that makes me giggle whenever I see these louts.

One day I was walking down the road minding my own business as you do when one of these antisocial gits went by revving his car, obviously thinking he was the coolest thing out of the freezer and wanting the whole world to notice.

We all did. When 10 seconds later there was suddenly a huge bang, a squeal of brakes and lots of black smoke.

Everyone on the street had a good laugh. Tee hee hee.

Take comfort from the fact that they are doing no good to their cars whatsoever and so they won't last long. Don't know what he'd done, but it sounded expensive.

lionheart · 05/05/2014 09:14

The same thing goes for those waspy motorbikes and their roaring big brothers.

MrsBungle · 05/05/2014 09:16

yanbu!

OddBoots · 05/05/2014 09:17

It's motorbikes that make the most noise around here, there's one that makes a huge noise driving along a nearby road at 5.30am most days.

Goldmandra · 05/05/2014 09:18

They have some odd idea that everyone who hears it is either really impressed or jealous when, in reality, people just know they are insecure in their self image and never matured past early teenage.

Pipbin · 05/05/2014 09:19

Motorbikes are a lot of noise to move one person about.
I'm sure I read that there was going to be a maximum noise rule on motorbikes.

HannerHet · 05/05/2014 09:19

Yanbu, I wonder if they will realise how ridiculous they look at some point in their lives

fridayfreedom · 05/05/2014 09:19

Leaving the hospital the other day two boys on motorbikes were zooming up behind me far too close. Put my foot down in my 1.4 Yaris and left them miles behind on their souped up hair driers!!
I just laugh at them and treat them like the idiots that they are!

EBearhug · 05/05/2014 09:19

Yes, there were 3 or 4 cars doing this round town yesterday. The passengers (couldn't see the drivers) were teenage boys, possibly young 20s. They were driving like idiots, cutting in and pulling out and changing lanes unsafely, causing at least one driver to brake suddenly and use his horn. I don't know who they thought they were impressing.

bigdog888 · 05/05/2014 09:22

Nothing wrong with a sports exhaust where there are power gains and/or weight savings to be had - a fruity exhaust note is just an added bonus!

Darksideofthemoon88 · 05/05/2014 09:23

I assume they all have small penis syndrome. Pathetic.

bigdog888 · 05/05/2014 09:23

Oh and btw OP the number of exhaust tail pipes has nothing to do with the volume! Nor the performance for that matter!

Aspiringhuman · 05/05/2014 09:29

YANBU, one of my neighbours has a souped up noisy exhaust. He sits revving it for a good few minutes before he leaves for work in the morning, he works shifts and it can be as early as 4 am.

CoventryUniversityNetballTeam · 05/05/2014 09:29

Yanbu it's a pain in the arse. They go flying up and down my street at all hours and it's starting to piss me off. I live opposite a car park and they sit in the car park for hours on end with their 'birds' making noise and leaving litter lying about all over the place. The music is shite and loud and i don't even bother going to bed now until at least midnight, which appears to be their curfew.

It's a small town so I know who they are but the police have given up moving them on. I wish they would take it seriously and give them asbos.

I absolutely love my cars and understand that people like to modify to enhance the speed but what is the point to drive round and round the streets being a nuisance?

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 05/05/2014 09:30

Think of it as a public service - nothing says TWAT ALERT! quite as effectively.

DownstairsMixUp · 05/05/2014 09:36

I feel for you. I have an evo in my street which is started up about 5 minutes before they actually go anywhere so it's sitting in the drive just roaring away. Drives me bonkers!! It's not a nice car either.

Joylin · 05/05/2014 13:24

Yanbu, I don't understand the obsession with making them so loud, why do they need to announce to the whole world that they have a car? Do they think it's impressive or something? There's also the obligatory blaring music to assure everybody that they're not just a pathetic dickhead but a pathetic dickhead with a terrible taste in music and they need you to know it!!!

I believe that it's their only way of getting attention, most people have personalities, intelligence, looks, sense of humour or something appealing about them that attracts attention from others. If you have nothing, being loud and annoying turns heads, they are probably dim enough to believe that people are looking in admiration.

Lottapianos · 05/05/2014 13:25

Yes yes to small penis syndrome!

VodkaJelly · 05/05/2014 13:36

Some people like me have a powerful car with a noisy exhaust, but I dont drive like a dickhead or rev it or in fact have it out of the garage that much. i just drive it normally and in a considerate way and I dont have my music blaring out either

Except when drag racing at Santa Pod.

I dont have a penis so small penis syndrome doesnt apply to me, maybe small tits syndrome - take a look - no that doesnt apply either.

And I dont care if people are looking at my car or not, it is modified and driven for my pleasure and considering how much I pay in insurance for it I bloody well will enjoy it.

squoosh · 05/05/2014 13:39

YADNBU

I despise people with these loud souped up cars. I don't get what the point is. Oh look you've transformed your Ford Fiesta into a Noisy Ford Fiesta, how very alluring. Give me a moment whilst I remove my knickers and present myself on your backseat.

Darksideofthemoon88 · 05/05/2014 13:41

Snort! Squoosh , I like it Grin Funny how they're nearly always crappy little cars - round my way, normally Corsas from four models ago with a 1.0 engine...

Mintyy · 05/05/2014 13:43

Yabu. I love boy racers - I think they're great!

libertytrainers · 05/05/2014 13:45

hey i have a fiesta is aint a crappy little car

frankie001 · 05/05/2014 13:50

I had an issue with my exhaust, took it to garage and they couldn't fix it. Had to drive 5 mins to another garage with no silencer on exhaust. Was mortified! And loud.
