Completely off thread but my parents bought me a black baby doll one xmas, I was probably 2 or 3.
I think it was very forward thinking in the 1960's
Me too, I wonder if we had the same one? Smile Mine had eyes that closed when she lay down and stiff bristle eyelashes. Wonder if she's still in my dad's loft?

I remember this one from my youth www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B004E2YV1O/ref=redir_mdp_mobile it has afro hair, may be able to find it cheaper on eBay.

It was a barbie called Nichelle

Cundt I didn't gave to look hard to find one for my dd.Confused

I've seen them everywhere(online and in shops)and we live in a Devon, hardly the multi cultural centre of Britain.

As an aside Corolle Les Cheries Cecile is gorgeous.

That said Argos Design a Friend need to get their finger out.

The American girl dolls are beautiful & come in different skin shades & with different hair. We had a Corolle baby too when my dds were little.

Merrylegs · 04/05/2014 08:30

I was going to say American girl. But beware - could become a veeery expensive hobby. Look on ebay or My Doll boutique for UK supplier.

Retropear · 04/05/2014 08:34

I think the Afro Caribbean hair is an issue as it doesn't brush easily.

My dd's Cecile has Afro Caribbean hair however she can't brush it,the new ones have straight hair. It's a shame they don't still have both but maybe it's due to customer feedback.Confused

MoreThanPP and Pixel, I too had one long ago - in the late 1940s. You have got me wondering where Mum got him from (I am sure he was a boy doll) and wishing I still had him. He was probably pased on to my nieces and long lost.
