To think I should be given the shoes for the original price?

Two weeks ago I shoe shopping with our five year old, we were looking for some in canvas.

None to be had, all the desirable styles had sold out! :(

Shop showed us some in the catalogue that they could order for us, it would take a couple of days max.

Anyway, now a couple of weeks have passed...and apparently ( after two calls) telling me they had been shipped from Startrite -but were missing in the post...they have totally sold out.

Shop has very kindly located us a similar style, but they are £6 more than the original we had picked out.

I think for my trouble I should be allowed to buy them for what the original ones cost.

I was told the shoes were on their way - twice

what do you all think please?

I think they should do it as a gestures of goodwill, though obviously they aren't obliged to.

I also can't for the life of me understand the faff you put yourself through for a pair of canvas shoes for a 5 year old.

YABU. Sounds like the shop have been let down by the supplier. It happens and it's a shitty position for them to be in. That doesn't mean they can afford to take the hit on discounting other products to make up for it.

But if they fit, surely just get them. Didnt realise it was a fashion show.

I suppose as a gesture of goodwill it would be nice of them to offer you the replacement shoes at the original price, particularly as the ones you wanted were "lost in the post".

However, I wouldn't be outraged if they did insist on the full price either - basically the shoes you liked had sold out, they tried to get you some more from the supplier but couldn't as they too had sold out, so they then went to the trouble of tracking down something similar.

They have been pretty helpful already to be fair. It is not the shop's fault that the style had sold out & they could get no more. They could have just said "sorry, none left" and not even tried to help.

If the new shoes are more than you wanted to pay, you are not obliged to have them are you?

yabu , they are not the same shoes so why would they be the same price ? Presumably you didn't pay for them at the time of ordering so they have the "right" to rescind the offer.

I've just noticed that the shoes were Startrite - was this a Clarks shop?

"all the desirable styles had sold out" could just mean that OP had asked for a pair of canvas shoes & been shown a pair of wellies and a pair of slippers with a "these are all we have in your size".

Or maybe that is just our local Clarks shop .

No, I saw the I assumed you used it to indicate you didn't want your DC walking around in shoes that for whatever reason you didn't deem good enough. What did you mean by it?

I think as they told me they were in transit twice I got a little fed up.

wolf as lovely as the French style decking shoes were my daughter wanted something a little more obvious.

plus, I'm not about to spend 40-50 quid on them

Yes, they sell Startrite in Clarks. They only generally allow you access to them after showing you Clarks own styles first though .

YABU. It's a pair of daps, just buy whatever fits.

Assuming there is only one shoe shop where you live I guess you didn't have much choice if you weren't able to go elsewhere.

In fact, when you go back to them you should explain to them that you expect more as they are the only shoe shop in the vicinity and you are a captive audience.

They are a niche shop, the only one for miles that actually measures feet!
