Abject apology here.

Surely the Beeb will have to sack him now?

The slope comment: Why mention the 'slope' at all? I couldn't see it. They didn't show them correcting the 'slope'. Why did Hammond feel the need to define the 'slope' in the way he did if it wasn't to point out it had an alternate meaning?
And as for Richard Hammond coming out in support of him. Richard "Imagine waking up and remembering you're Mexican " Hammond.

For legal reasons: I don't believe they're racist. I just believe they deliberately keep saying racist things and don't care who they offend.

Bogeyface · 02/05/2014 20:50

Do you think that because your husband is black your view is more legitimate? No but I think his is, and I happen to agree with him.

THis is about racism, it could easily be about something else. There is nothing a red top likes more than a successful person fucking up (or in this case, appearing to fuck up). It doesnt matter to them whether he did it or not, which in our opinion he didnt, they will still play it for all he is worth while staying just the right side of legal.

Bogeyface · 02/05/2014 20:53

Look, just because you hate someone as many people hate JC doesnt automatically mean that anything he is accused of must be correct.

The Mirror has really done its job well hasnt it? Tried and convicted on a short piece of unconvincing video and an apology from JC for not trying hard enough to not say a word he didnt say.

TucsonGirl · 02/05/2014 20:54

Has anyones opinion of Clarkson been changed by this incident?

BolshierAyraStark · 02/05/2014 20:56

I must not be old enough as I didn't even know the rhyme had the word in it! Shock

Anyway, people who like Clarkson will defend, those that don't will jump on this inept Mirror bandwagon...

ffs leave him alone if anyone asked me to say the rhyme I would have said it because that's how I learnt it - its a nursery rhyme= pisses me off when they change the name of the dog called nixger in the dambusters film.

Treaclepot · 02/05/2014 21:01

Ffs I grew up with this rhymne and would never ever use it now.
It isn't impossible to never use it again.
I bet half the people letting him off where the same lot of complained about Ross and Brand.

TiggyD · 02/05/2014 21:01

I've said "tiger" since I was at school. People have been using an alternative word for at least the last 30 years. Very odd that Clarkson suddenly couldn't think of one.

MyPrettyToes · 02/05/2014 21:02

Bogey that last post you wrote stands on it own. It is a fair point. You did not need to wheel out the 'I know a black person who agrees with me', it diminishes your argument. I always think in debates about racism to use that is pretty crap, to be honest.

squoosh · 02/05/2014 21:02

You forgot to add 'political correctness gone mad' samsam.

Bogeyface · 02/05/2014 21:08

Mypretty Yes it does, I mentioned my husbands colour earlier to show that not everyone who would be considered the offended party believes that he said it.

MrsPMT · 02/05/2014 21:10

agree with TiggyD, he was being a smartarse, which is JCs usual position on most things.

Bogeyface · 02/05/2014 21:11

Actually H agrees with samsam about the Dambusters thing. He says that it was "of its time". Wrong now but not considered wrong then and should be left in if only to show that things have changed and how we have moved on. He says the same about other terms that are now considered racist but havent always been. He says that how can we teach our children what is right if they dont understand why something else is wrong, and such things as the dog in Dambusters can prompt conversations about this type of language and the changes that have happened since and why.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 02/05/2014 21:15

What's that you say DH? Speak up now, the boys and girls can't hear you! It's what gone mad, you say? Political correctness? Ooh you cheeky dh! I'll put you back in your box in a minute!

WhistleTopTomato · 02/05/2014 21:18

Ffs I grew up with this rhymne and would never ever use it now

I'm assuming that everyone who's using "But I grew up with that rhyme complete with the offensive word so it would be impossible for me not to use it now" argument also eats with their hands and shits in a plastic pot on the bathroom floor. Because it is literally impossible to unlearn something you learnt as an infant and replace it with something else. IMPOSSIBLE.

Bogeyface · 02/05/2014 21:20

Are you calling me a liar Steaming (accurate name btw)?

He is sitting here with me now, reading this thread. It has caused a very long conversation between us and reading samsam prompted what he said about Dambusters.

We also discussed UKIP on the back of the other thread and decided that we would sign up for the leaflet distribution in our town next weekend via HNH, which we had talked about doing but didnt get around to.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 02/05/2014 21:24

No, I am not calling you a liar. .

I guess if dh is distributing UKIP leaflets, they must not be racist either?!? who knew?

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 02/05/2014 21:25

And for the record, I'm also clearly not calling you ignorant, stupid, misguided or racist. Just so we have it clear.

And neither is my Dp.

Bogeyface · 02/05/2014 21:32

HNH = Hope Not Hate.

The leaflet distribution is against the upsurge of UKIP support in our area. We dont want our mixed race dd being brought up in a town that thinks its ok to discriminate her based on her colour.

Hiding this thread because it is incredibly irritating to try and have a rational discussion with someone who cant speak due to smacking themselves in the face thanks to their kneejerks.

MyPrettyToes · 02/05/2014 21:37

Bogey -

If someone is not clear what HNH means this paragraph would suggest you were leafletting for UKIP. To be fair to Original, it is quite ambiguous.

Bogeyface · 02/05/2014 21:39

Given that I found out about HNH via MN, I have to admit that I assumed it was common knowledge.

squoosh · 02/05/2014 21:39

I did think you meant you were going to distribute leaflets for UKIP.

Bogeyface · 02/05/2014 21:41

Although the thought of the reaction to DH rocking up and offering to campaign on UKIPs behalf is rather amusing!

Bogeyface · 02/05/2014 21:42

Really hiding it now!
