AIBU to think that 28 sets of clothes for each person for a 2 week holiday is to much. Me and my dp are taking our 5 kids on holiday and he thinks we should have a different set every day and night but I think its to much.

Assuming you aren't going to Milan fashion week that's far too much.

omg.
I bet they have laundromats where you're going. And many items can be worn at least twice before needing a wash. How can you even have luggage allowance for 28 outfits per person? We are struggling with my rule (as below).

I am working to a rule of wear one cold weather outfit plus 3 in the suitcase (for warm weather). Plus PJs and a few extras like pants/special shoes. We will be away for 3.5 weeks, but have easy access to laundering.

BikeRunSki · 30/04/2014 20:11

That is an awful lot of clothes. I don't think I have 28 sets of clothes! What is your baggage allowance?

I usually take something like about 3 pairs if trousers/skirts, 3 or 4 tops, a dress and a jacket. Similar got the DCs. And washing powder!

PrincessOfChina · 30/04/2014 20:12

I'm planning more or less that for a trip to NYC next month. But I'm going for a week and it's my honeymoon so I'm allowed!

Surely swimmers and shorts are all that's needed most days?

ForeskinHyena · 30/04/2014 20:12

If he's carrying the cases and doing all the washing when you get home, then yes 28 sets of clothes each sounds marvellous Wink

ICanSeeTheSun · 30/04/2014 20:12

It's that each or for the family.

How would you plan to pack and transport so many sets of clothes? How old are your DC's? Are they pulling their own luggage?

And the sheer expense and time to buy 28 sets of clothes for 7 people boggles my brain. Tell your DH he is being ridiculous.

IamInvisible · 30/04/2014 20:15

He does know excess baggage charges are extortionate?

If it's hot won't you be in swim/ beachwear all day, then just clothes for night times. I get 2 or 3 nights out of an outfit!

MikeLitoris · 30/04/2014 20:15

Depends where you are staying imo.

We are going to hotel on the beach soon and we are each taking.

2-3 swimming costumes
2pairs shorts for days (girls have 2-3 day dresses)
2-3vests/thirty for the days
Beach flip flops

The boys have 3 smart shorts and 5 tops for the.nights.
Smarter shoes/trainers

The girls have a similar amount except for the exceptionally messy toddler. She has something for each evening.

I refuse to do laundry on holiday and even if I had a washing machine I would not use it.

cardibach · 30/04/2014 20:16

I take something similar to BikeRunSki (perhaps a few more tops) but with no washing powder. Clothes really don't need washing that much. I f something does, a rinse with or without soap in the sink will sort it. 28 sets is fucking ridiculous.

littlewhitebag · 30/04/2014 20:16

If you are going somewhere hot you need hardly any clothes as you will be in swimsuits most of the time. And the evening clothes hardly get dirty at all as you generally put them on a freshly showered body then remove then a few hours later having not done anything more taxing than eaten dinner and had a few drinks.

Whitewaters · 30/04/2014 20:16

That does sound a lot. Surely shorts/trousers/skirts could be worn more than once even if t-shirts and tops need changing every day.

Having said that I'd take at least that many pairs of underwear, but I do go a bit overboard on that front.

cardamomginger · 30/04/2014 20:17

That's insane. Unless you are married to Gok Wan. In which case it is still insane (and somewhat surprising, as I assumed he was a friend of Dorothy's), but is at least explicable.

MikeLitoris · 30/04/2014 20:17

That thirty should be tshirts btw.

ICanSeeTheSun · 30/04/2014 20:17

It will take you weeks to catch up on that amount of washing.

proudbi · 30/04/2014 20:17

Its Tunisia we are going and won't have access to a laundry. I was thinking of 3 pairs of shorts each 2 swimsuits 6 vests/tops each as kids are messy and 3 outfits for nights each. He thinks we will need a lot more in case younger ones make a total mess or spill stuff on themselves.

HolidayCriminal · 30/04/2014 20:19

How old are the kids?
In climate like that you can hand wash things, hang them up to dry overnight. Just bring a bit of washing line & pegs & powder for hand wash & wipes.

specialsubject · 30/04/2014 20:21

if you and your husband have learned to eat without spilling too much, you won't need clean outfits every evening.

if he wants to carry all that, good luck to him.

littlewhitebag · 30/04/2014 20:21

He hasn't thought through the packing/baggage weight thing has he? I would take fewer bottoms and extra t-shirts for very young messy children. If they mess their clothes you can rinse them out in the sink.

WitchWay · 30/04/2014 20:21

Far too much!! If you're going somewhere warm then drying washing will be easy, even if you end up hand-washing as I often do when abroad. If you're going somewhere cold then stuff won't get sweaty. I make sure we have at least half the holiday's worth of clean underwear & then for a fortnight 3 pairs shorts each, 4-5 t-shirts, 3 smarter things each for evenings, 2 sets of swimming stuff each. Plenty.
