To think that £72.00 is too much to go see Prince concert!

Just heard Prince is playing 4 gigs in the UK IM May. Am a huge Prince fan so checked price of tickets. CHEAPEST is £72.00! ( highest is £135.00)

Is this ridiculous or is this normal these days?

So disappointed.

When he did a residency at the O2 a few years ago he only charged £32.00, so really wasn't expecting it to be so much. :(

£7.20? Yep definitely overpriced

caruthers · 30/04/2014 19:06

How do they print his name on the tickets considering he has no name.

Prince is brilliant and he knows the market value of his performances so the price will be about right.

It's the booking fees I object to....they are criminal.

Andrewofgg · 30/04/2014 19:06

He's worth what people will pay to see him.

Scarletohello · 30/04/2014 19:09

Spider, I didn't write £7.20. I wrote £72.00.

About standard concert ticket these days unfortunately. Even worse if the fans aren't quick enough those tickets will be snapped up by 'legitimate business minded folk' and sold on eBay for hundreds, which according to another thread isn't such a terrible thing either I hark back to the good old days when tickets for a gig were sold at a reasonable price and touts were rightly viewed as profiteering scumbags

TequilaMockingbirdy · 30/04/2014 19:26

I don't think so to be honest. He's a massive star and will sell the tickets so they're not overpriced if people will pay for them.

TheWickerWoman · 30/04/2014 19:30

Such a rip off! I really wanted to go.

I got Blur tickets for 35 pounds in 2012, they were like gold dust, they did a few intimate gigs much the same as Prince is now. Can't see how the purple one justifies this.

McFox · 30/04/2014 19:37

Having seen him 3 times already I'd definitely pay that, he is so amazing live! Sadly he's playing a week before my due date, I don't think that I can risk it Smile

overitalready · 30/04/2014 19:43

Is that on ticketmaster?

I brought two 1D tickets for my DD last Xmas on there and it cost me £300 I loved it However when the tickets arrived they showed £37 each!

I'm not sure why they showed that but never again will I use ticket master.

TheWickerWoman · 30/04/2014 19:45

Overitalready, That's exactly the problem, ticketmaster and the like charge more. Them Blur tickets I got were only 35 as I got them directly from the venue.

Not sure what the case is with Prince but usually they're so high from going through a third party seller.

t3rr3gl35 · 30/04/2014 19:48

I went to see him in the early 90's and he is an absolutely fantastic performer. I'm not a Prince fan in any way but can vouch that his was the best gig I have ever been to. Well worth £72.00 to see him.

PrincessOfChina · 30/04/2014 19:48

Normal I would say for that level of artist. You'd pay £35 for a band like Bastille in an Academy type venue. £55+ for someone like Katy Perry in an Arena and £75 upwards for people like Coldplay, Take That, Robbie Williams, U2.

overitalready · 30/04/2014 19:56

Wicker - So where do I go to book tickets? 1D was the first ever concert I'd booked myself Blush

I didn't realise ticketmaster was 3rd party. I just assumed stupidly that £300 was the real price.

Even now googling the Prince tickets only Ticketmaster comes up?

Confused
Andrewofgg · 30/04/2014 19:58

I tell you what McFox if you change your mind there'll be some very nervous people around you Grin

phalanges · 30/04/2014 20:01

When he was at the 02, I paid £150 for 2 tickets (from eBay).

It was so worth it - he was just amazing!

So £72 is well worth it, imo - they will be snapped up.

DrFunkesFamilyBandSolution · 30/04/2014 20:01

Normal for a musician of that caliber/age (There are artists I have and would pay much more for).

MrsDeanAmbrose · 30/04/2014 20:02

Overit, ticketmaster are primary sellers and also have a resale market on their site.

I'm not sure who will be selling Prince tickets (not my thing, although £72 is about right for the MEN arena in Manchester) but the main ticket sellers are ticketmaster, seetickets, gigsandtours (same company as seetickets), eventim (who will likely do the manchester tickets and are pretty good), ticketline, and axm.

mrsleomcgary · 30/04/2014 20:04

Prince is touring again? Eeeeeeeeek!!!!

I would chop of my left arm (and im left handed) and beat myself to death with it if it meant I could see prince and he's playing glasgow!

Can I afford it? Not really. Do I think it's good value for money so willing pay it? Absolutely.

dustarr73 · 30/04/2014 20:06

I would pay it as he has such a huge back catologue.Wouldnt pay it for 1D as they have about 5 songs.
I havent seen him but i would say hes great live.

BellaVita · 30/04/2014 20:08

Depends how much you want to see him I guess.

dustarr73 · 30/04/2014 20:11

Is he playing Ireland do you know.

Cocolepew · 30/04/2014 20:13

I would pay it for him. But no irish dates Sad

Scarletohello · 30/04/2014 20:14

Over - he's playing at the LG arena by me which means paying expensive tickets. I'm pretty sure 72 is the correct price for this gig.

I really want to go but can't afford it.

McFox · 30/04/2014 20:19

Andrewofgg my DH is actually trying to persuade me to go! All of out favourite bands/singers are playing in the few weeks round the due date, how unfair is that?!
