The more I look at that £60 dress, the more I like it for a bride. You could wear it with a floaty, spangly wrap draped over your arms.

Lambzig · 29/04/2014 17:41

Try the bridal department at tkmaxx.com, some lovely wedding and bridesmaid dresses.

Creamycoolerwithcream · 29/04/2014 17:42

How about booking a session with a personal shopper at a large department store? They usually ask a few questions beforehand such as your budget, size, height age etc and then get lots of styles to try on. If you don't like any they know the stock inside out and will be bake to help you to choose something.

specialsubject · 29/04/2014 17:43

charity shops, second-hand bridal shops are FULL of all sorts of dresses from total meringue to slim and elegant. I've been dress shopping today (wedding guest) - it's true!

there is no need to buy the outfit months in advance, don't be suckered by the wedding industry.

slartybartfast · 29/04/2014 17:44

Made to measure and you pick the elements and fabric you want. Might suit if you like a Retro 50s style

QueenCadbury · 29/04/2014 17:51

Get yourself on the style and beauty board and post your size/measurements and budget and someone is sure to be able to help you.

preloved is a good site for second hand dresses.

IfIDontKnowAndYouDontKnow · 29/04/2014 18:00

Have only had time to look at a few links, will look properly later ( and reply properly too) The £130 Coast dress is absolutely gorgeous. First dress that I actually think is perfect.
Sadly I cant stretch to that, but any look alikes would be great.

GreenIsTheWord · 29/04/2014 18:02

Just don't panic. I'm getting married in 5 weeks. I started dress shopping a fortnight ago. Went to town, tried on about 6 and found one I loved.

Everyone else was practically having palpitations that i'd not got the dress yet, coming out with gems such as 'but if you get it in a bridal shop you have to order it nine months before the wedding!'

What a load of bollox. Bridal shops have loads of dresses on the rack in all sizes, and all can be adjusted within a couple of weeks. My dress was half price because it had been tried on about 5 or 6 times over the past few months. Still pristine, you'd never know.

Oh my gosh, are you the poster who posted ages ago about ways to make a church or community hall (sorry can't remember which) look nice? I remember hearing someplace that you were planning your whole wedding here but didn't see the thread. Hi!

Anyway, DRESS. Agree you might try vintage stores. I got my handmade 1950s dress at a thrift vintage place and it was perfect, I loved it.

But what is your usual dress style?

Kissmequick123 · 29/04/2014 18:20

Monsoon have a lovely vintage dress called Ava.

What do you want? If you're not fussy over fabric, then I made my dress for less than 30 in satin (remnants from market store)
