Ok so these are the culprits,

Everyone loves Raymond
Two and a Half Men
How I met your mother
Rules of Engagement

They are all different but the themes are pretty
much the same. Demanding women, guys that are players, unreasonable women, tacit acceptance of treating women like shit. Crazy women, empathy with the guys, point of view. Just sick of them, I know that they are supposed to be lighthearted and humorous but just feel that the drip drip mysogony infects the culture and makes it so much harder for women
To argue against this entitled behaviour by men as it is so normalised and if you argue against
it you are deemed to lack
A sense of humour, be demanding, neurotic etc..,

Do other people know what I'm saying or is it just me...??

Miranda in SATC dated the divine Blair Underwood. Schmidt (Jewish) in New Girl was with Cece (Indian).

Dh sometimes watches TBBT and ROE - they look pretty shite to me.

I love Modern Family. Although Gloria is the trophy wife, she is definitely an equal in the marriage and takes no shit. Claire is also the brains between her and loveable but dorky Phil. Cameron may be a SAHD in the first series but then he becomes a football coach (and teacher) and is able to handle himself. So not totally stereotypical.

Eminybob we've just been in the states where the new cougar town season had started so they've not cancelled it just yet Smile

I caught a few episodes, I remember when it first started thinking it sounded crap but it was brilliant so getting me the box set!

BreakOutTheKaraoke · 30/04/2014 21:12

Cougar town is 20 min episodes, think they've done 5 series so far?

writtenguarantee · 30/04/2014 21:24

I find Big Bang Theory just poorly written. The bread and butter of comedy is good writing. You can see the jokes coming from a mile away and they just aren't that funny.

Compare BBT to Peep Show. Now that's effing great writing. Mitchell is a genius.

Scarletohello · 30/04/2014 21:29

Erm David Mitchell didn't actually write Peep Show ( great as it is). These guys did...

I'm going to say something id never utter IRL for fear of persecution from my family and friends

I think TBBT is crap and over rated.
And Sheldon is a nobhead

McNickenChuggets · 30/04/2014 23:25

I like watching Rules of Engagement, HIMYM and BBT but only catch the odd episode here and there as I'm not really a Telly buff.

One thing that strikes me about HIMYM.... Ted is telling the story to his kids. I would have loooooong fucked off if that was my dad droning on about every insignificant point which was entirely inconsequential to him meeting my mother. Get a grip Ted, nobody really cares! You big sap!

McNickenChuggets · 30/04/2014 23:27

And yup Sheldon used to be funny but now comes across as a dick!

BoneyBackJefferson · 01/05/2014 06:56

Sheldon's behaviour on TBBT hasn't changed from when the program started.

It is interesting to see how peoples attitudes have changed to it now that it is (mainly) directed towards a female.

AskBasil · 01/05/2014 09:02

I expect it's something to do with the female supremacist world conspiracy BBJ Hmm

AskBasil · 01/05/2014 09:03

Also actually his behaviour has changed.

He couldn't deal with touching anyone when the programme first started.

Amrapaali · 01/05/2014 09:26

The episode where Sheldon "doesn't rule out an intimate relationship" with Amy got me unreasonably excited. Grin

Yes, loved the Mindy Project. Agree with Scarlet -again more neurosis from a female character about not finding love, not finding a man. Cringe. Mindy is so much more cooler than that...

bibliomania · 01/05/2014 09:51

Boney, I don't think the change is that his behaviour is directed to a female, I think it's because there are different expectations in a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship than there are in a flatmate/work friend relationship.

beershuffle · 01/05/2014 12:28

Bizarre analysis of modern family. Mitchell is the manly one while Cam is effeminate? Bullshit. Claire a dependent sahm? Gloria a bimbo? Have you even watched it once? None of that is remotely true.

writtenguarantee · 01/05/2014 14:27

Erm David Mitchell didn't actually write Peep Show ( great as it is). These guys did...

I know. I didn't mean to imply that. But reading my post I can see why someone would think I did.

He's a comic genius is what I meant.

writtenguarantee · 01/05/2014 14:31

Mitchell is the manly one while Cam is effeminate?

definitely. Cam is irrational and emotional, artistic and stay at home. Mitchell is the power lawyer and more rational. However, he has "issues", like all gay people (as the stereotype goes).

I agree with your other assessments.

MargotLovedTom · 01/05/2014 16:04

That's what I wrote about Modern Family yesterday. I'd say Cameron is a mixture of camp gay man and physically strong college footballer, not your typical clichéd gay man.

beershuffle · 01/05/2014 16:15

They both have crossover elements, Cam is a country farm boy, football coach, sahd, clown, builder...and Mitchell is the lawyer, ice dancer, nonsporty etc etc...they are just like people are, they dont fit into the cosy stereotype.

"I expect it's something to do with the female supremacist world conspiracy BBJ"

If that's what you take from my post then that is your issue. My point is that Sheldon's attitude is generally shit with all of the other characters.

AskBasil · 01/05/2014 19:37

Don't disagree with that, just picked up on your "Wah, you lot think it's OK when he does it to men" implication.

BoneyBackJefferson · 01/05/2014 20:28

No one on the thread has said that it is ok that he does it to men all I have pointed out that he does it to both genders/sexes.

I personally wouldn't have Sheldon as a friend. Would you?

AskBasil · 01/05/2014 20:40

I might do tbh.

I'm used to putting up with tiresome people and at least he's intelligent and informative. Grin

BoneyBackJefferson · 01/05/2014 22:06

true but I couldn't cope with all the rules and foibles.
