Passport and Name Change

I've come for traffic manily. However

I changed my DS's surname in April 2013 by deedpoll (I am the only one listed on the birth certificate.)

I need to update his passport when I renew mine as we're going away in a couple of months. At the end of last year Ds's father was awarded PR and a couple of months later I was given a no contact order and contact ceased.

because I changed his name BEFORE the PR was given and I only have my name on his BC is it okay to send his deedpoll and his BC and a letter stating what he was known as and what he is known as now and that everyone on the BC signed it. Will they change it without any hassle or do they do some type of checks to ensure about the court order?

Fathers details are not on his passport application. I'm not going to send the court order stating no contact due to the fact the name change was before he had PR so at the time I only had to sign it.

Many Thanks

No idea. Might be worth trying legal.

I don't know for sure in your circumstance but my experience (DS passport came back yesterday) was I sent form away with deedpoll and got asked to provide full birth certificate and a letter to state no one else has PR and there has been no court orders in regard to PR.

I'd send everything to be on the safe side. If they don't need it they can ignore it. Perhaps give a brief run through on the additional info bit of the application form.

I've put his full BC in the envelope I'm the only one listed and put in a covering letter stating what he was known as and what he is now known as and the date I changed his deedpoll and I was never married to his father and I was the only one with PR.

You think this will be enough?

If you use the check and send service, surely any discrepancies will be noted before it gets sent off. Hopefully.

There are occasions when an unmarried mother will have changed a child’s name by deed poll and the father has subsequently obtained a parental responsibility order. In these circumstances, legal advice has been that at the time the change of name deed was executed, the mother was the only one with parental responsibility and therefore we should accept the change of name as valid

This applies to me so the PP should sent in the new name

Photocopy the court order and who ever signs the photo and passport form get them to write on the back of the photocopy.

I have seen the original court order and verify that this is an exact copy.

As it's a renewal it may not be nessersary, but the added information means that the passport office has all the proof
