Better songs. Better characters. Better script. Better everything!

OP posts:

There are two Disney films which I can (and have) watched with my dd (5) over and over and over and still enjoy them every time. One is Tangled and the other is Enchanted.

I'm not sure Frozen will be like that. I loved it at the cinema in 3D and found it quite magical but it seems to lose something when played on our TV at home. I think Let it go is an amazing song and is probably better than the actual film.

My daughter is completely and utterly obsessed with Frozen.

On the subject of Tangled , and sorry to hijack but does anyone know how to get hold of the short sequel that was made. I think it was shown before another Disney film at the cinema but we never got to see it. I was wondering if it is on another Disney DVD as an extra?

AngelsWithSilverWings · 27/04/2014 10:11

Confusion - my DS cut DD's hair off two days after watching Tangled for the first time!

curiousgeorgie · 27/04/2014 10:14

Angels - the short with the horse losing the wedding rings?

My DD watches it on you tube but have never managed to find it on DVD Sad

AngelsWithSilverWings · 27/04/2014 10:15

Thank you curiousgeorge! I'll look it up on you tube. Not sure why I've not thought of that before. Grin

PrimalLass · 27/04/2014 10:20

I hate the horrible shouty singing voice of the lead in Frozen

Idina Menzel. Shock She is amazing.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 27/04/2014 10:28

Just watched Tangled 2 and DD loved it and immediately asked if we can watch the proper Tangled again today.

When I said yes she said "no actually I want to watch Frozen again"

Oh well!

FunnyFoot · 27/04/2014 10:34

Tangled fan here. Hated Frozen thought it was very boring and I hated the songs.

Tillyscoutsmum · 27/04/2014 10:39

Prefer the characters in Tangled (think I might even have fancied Flynn Ryder slightly Shock) but prefer the songs in Frozen.

FrigginRexManningDay · 27/04/2014 10:57

I felt like there was a huge chunk of Frozen left on the cutting room floor which made the film seem very rushed. Tangled was much better although nothing will ever compare to Finding Nemo.

jamdonut · 27/04/2014 10:58

I love both!!!

The songs are great in both. Perhaps people are less familiar with the Ice Queen story and so didn't connect with it straight away. Most people know the story of Rapunzel.

YolandiFuckinVisser · 27/04/2014 11:10

Tangled, every time. I just asked the dc what they thought, they both went Hmm at me and said tangled in unison in matching incredulous tones. (Ds age 12, dd age 7).

NutellaLawson · 27/04/2014 11:14

I haven't seen frozen, only clips on YouTube. I have to say the script is poor. The dialogue was excruciatingly badly written in the scene were anna goes to find elsa in her ice palace thing.

I also hate the costume change in 'let it go'. wtf is that outfit? And her sexy hip swinging walk to camera? It's all a bit las vegas tacky in that scene.

and you can't tell me the songwriter's brief for 'let it go' wasn't 'write a song like Defying Gravity'. Idina was shithot with that and won a Tony'.

(but defying gravity is ten times the song let it go is).

Maybe I'd think differently if I saw frozen in its entirety but I want impressed with the script.

ItIsAnIdeasGame · 27/04/2014 12:29

Finding Nemo. Now there's a film! I find Elsa a little frustrating and frightening in Frozen. Little Anna reminds me so much of my youngest that my heart aches for her childhood.

CalamityKate1 · 27/04/2014 12:50

On the whole I prefer Frozen. I find Tangled a little dull and too long.
I think the songs in Frozen are catchier, and Let It Go in particular is amazing BUT the lyrics in the Frozen songs are lacking a certain something I can't quite put my finger on.

basgetti · 27/04/2014 12:56

YANBU. I love Tangled, Frozen seems too rushed and also too many characters and too much going on, so it's hard to care about any of them as it doesn't go into enough depth.

FourEyesGood · 27/04/2014 13:21

Angels and curiousgeorgie Tangled Ever After is the extra on our Cinderella DVD.

I love Tangled and Frozen. Cinderella is boring as anything - no jokes for the grown-ups, and such a pathetic heroine.

Louise1956 · 27/04/2014 16:25

I liked Tangled much better. I thought the story in Frozen was confusing and most of it made very little sense. There was no satisfactory explanation, for instance, as to why the girls' parents thought that seperating them was a good idea, or locking the older sister up and keeping her away from everyone, considering she was going to be queen one day, or why if so they didn't find someone else for the younger sister to play withI thought that was weird. And Rapunzel, despite her loneliness, makes a life for herself in the tower, she doesn't just mope about. The love interest in Frozen was poorly developed, and so was the villainy, unlike Tangled, where Rapunzel's relationships with both the hero and the witch are much better developed.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 27/04/2014 16:29

Thank you Foureyes - we have an old Cinderella DVD so it's not on there and you are right Disney's Cinderella is very very dull.

poorbuthappy · 27/04/2014 16:32

Love Tangled. Tolerate Frozen.
My kids claimed to love Frozen but the DVD has only been watched a handful of times compared to Tangled.

And they never explained why 1 of the daughters was born with the powers and 1 wasn't. Shock

GobbolinoCat · 27/04/2014 16:52

nothing holds my 16 months attention like Frozen....

She hyperventilated when she saw a Frozen sticker book on the floor ( other dc), sat for ages looking at the pictures and runs to the tv if she hears it on, nothing else, no other films or programs ( bar night garden) hold her attention, its strange, weird and bloody amazing for us

GobbolinoCat · 27/04/2014 16:53

And they never explained why 1 of the daughters was born with the powers and 1 wasn't

A curse she was inflicted with, not powers!

EvilTwins · 27/04/2014 17:00

Frozen has a much better cast.

Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff and Santino Fortana are all Broadway veterans.

It's a proper musical.

Marylou2 · 27/04/2014 17:17

YANBU Tangled is 10 times better than Frozen!

LoveIsAnOpenDoor · 27/04/2014 17:31

Nooooo! Yabvvvvu [shocked]

devoniandarling · 27/04/2014 19:08

Personally I love them both.

Frozen is definitely the favourite in our house (dd1- 11 loves the songs and wants to perform let it go in her rep, ds1, 7, loves Olaf, wants to sing in summer, ds2, 6, loves the trolls/goblins and the "jinx, jinx again" song (I know it's called love is an open door but he won't have it!), and dd2, 4, thinks she IS Queen Elsa!).

However dd2 also loves tangled and thinks she is Rapunzel and every time we pass a church with a bell tower she thinks its rapunzels tower!

From a theatrical point of view the songs in frozen are better.
