Boxed Victoria sponge or Swiss roll maybe.

Custard is nice with say, a ginger cake, but not a cream sponge.

Doesn't sound like it needs anything but I like custard and Swiss roll so not a million miles away. My FIL puts both cold cream and hot custard on his puddings at the same time which I find weird.

It is absolutely fine by itself, but I certainly wouldn't object to a bit of cream on it! However, I wouldn't drown a freshly made Victoria sponge in custard; it's a bit like putting ketchup on a roast dinner.

I like custard on Swiss roll too.

Sounds like something my husband would eat. He always adds cream to his custard, embarrassing in restaurants

But I'm currently trying to resist the call of the fridge/kitchen cupboards, so YABU to start a thread about cake and custard when I'm at my weakest .
