I'm using this place to vent as, after a day of thinking and over-thinking this, I'm still angry about a high up work colleague's actions today. Keeping it short, another department and the department I work in were developing a similar approach to a tricky piece of work. When we found this out we joined up - with me and my team taking the lead at the behest of the other department as we were more knowledgeable. The project has since flourished and really taken off over the last six and is attracting a lot of attention. Being mindful of office politics, we have strived to keep the other department involved in a steering group and they are given credit as a joint partner on all publications. However, today I sent an internal request for my senior to send out to all other senior managers asking for support for the next phase. The message was done in conjunction with the other department's representative so they were involved as they get snippy if I don't. My senior sent out this message but also added his own message (one line) at the end naming me and thanking me and my team for all our efforts to get this far. Well, the other team have gone ballistic. The senior manager there sent a snippy email asking for the original email to be sent again thanking them too and naming them and so on. Totally distracts from what the message was trying to achieve and makes us all look like squabbling kids. I would never seek out or ask to me thanked like that, it just isn't what I would do and it wasn't the appropriate place to seek praise either ... but now my team members are getting upset as they have literally done all the work. I'm tempted to have a go at the other manager and I'm no shrinking violet, but I feel that is inappropriate. AIBU?
