Circumcision: A Social Status in the UK ?

Curiously in the UK, circumcision is now a matter of social class. While the "ordinary" folks rarely circumcise, circumcision is prevalent in the upper class as well as in the Royal family.

As an ex nanny to many upper class boys, I can honestly that that's not true in my experience, at least now a days. Only one was circumcised due to medical reasons. It never even came up as a topic.

Madamecastafiore : Lady Castafiore is not as common as muck... LOL

Sure, in the common folks, they get it cut only when a problem arises. Whereas the UC they are done because they are thz UC and can afford it. It is reported that later circumcision does not give the same aesthetic results as when it's done at birth. The sewing etc. result to additional scar tissue which sometimes can be not very appealing.

LittleBairn : Does that mean that as a result of the economical crisis, the UC is not any more as wealthy?

Oddly enough, I read an article just recently that said Princess Diana elected NOT to have William and Harry circumcised. I have no first-hand knowledge, though. :(

"The so-called “tradition” only dates back to George I, who imported the custom from his native Hanover.

Queen Victoria, convinced that the British royal family was descended from King David, had all her male offspring circumcised. The tradition continued through Edward VII, the Duke of Windsor and Prince Charles, who was circumcised by Rabbi Jacob Snowman at Buckingham Palace in 1948. His brothers Andrew and Edward were also circumcised."

The royal family are not the same as the upper class; and even if they were there is no evidence that recent generations are cut. And I shagged lots of posh boys in my youth and don't recall any of them being circumcised. Nor are any of the men in my immediate family.

Why do you care though? You seem a little obsessive about it, which I find rather distasteful.

Amazonia I was working for UC long before the economic crisis.

OK LittleBairn. Then they coule feel the wind of change long before it impacts on the ordinary people LOL and adapt accordingly. Let's just imagine some sort of revolution as a result of the economical crisis, where the mog would attempt to identify the UC and chase them. Being cut would far too easily easily give them away. Keeping their kids uncut is a far better camouflage despite social proprieties..

A circumcision is usually around £1200 - £2000 the UC aren't going to be bothered about thecost. The Middle classes on the other hand may be put off.
If the UC are no longer doing it (other than the Royals I doubt it was an UC thing) then its mostly likely due to changing trends.
Should a revolution take place I'm not sure the state of a mans cock will save him from the guillotine.

Remember, the Nazis forced the guys to drop down their pants in order to check if they were cut or not. As my old teacher kept on repeating : History repeats itself.

That's great exaggerated Amazonia, it was done just to further humiliate Jews nothing to do with actually determining their race.

Report
Amazonia · 26/04/2014 11:33

There might have been some humiliation in there, However, are you sure it was only humiliation? It must have proved useful or at least effective as a method of identifying Jews in a Western European society, as non jews were not at all circumcised in those days.

LittleBairn, circumcision is not that expensive - even Harley St top consultants do it for under £1,000.

Amazonia · 26/04/2014 14:29

That's still quite a bit of money.

"Economic crisis", not "economical crisis."

Trust me, the present financial crisis is proving to be anything BUT economical!

Good point : Economic and not economical, meaning they might be more conservative and cut less ? Blush

OP what on earth is the point of this thread? I second, third and fourth the comments about posh boys. As far as I am aware it is not a cultural norm in the UK.

I could ask my son what the status of his friends' penises were at his private school except he'd think I'm even madder than he already does.

No-one need ever pay anything for circumcision in the UK.

If it's needed, the NHS do it for free.

Amazonia cut what less? It's either cut or it isn't!

Report
Amazonia · 26/04/2014 19:33

Not really. I was told there is total circumcision and partial circumcision, depending on how much is cut off.The American circumcision is a total one, compared to a German circumcision, which leaves more of the skin.

I wish people wouldn't use the word 'mutilate' in these threads. Plenty of people have to have their sons circumcised and they are NOT mutilated.
