Circumcision: A Social Status in the UK ?

Amazonia · 25/04/2014 09:06

Curiously in the UK, circumcision is now a matter of social class. While the "ordinary" folks rarely circumcise, circumcision is prevalent in the upper class as well as in the Royal family.

thebody, having been on the receiving end, no, a desensitised penis is not fun.

FourForksAche · 06/05/2014 09:09

but to me, the main issue is consent, all the other stuff is minor compared to that problem.

Dont get the hygiene justification for doing it when they can just wash vs risk of death/disablement.
Also people should be using condoms anyway, I guess the latter could add to the desensitization.

PigletJohn -- If you keep on posting ridiculous misrepresentations of what I have posted, then I think the inescapable conclusion is that you are either trolling or unable to read.

Ah, mathanxiety- there you are! Could you address this post, pleas

*Mathanxiety -even by your questionable statistics, the "benefits" of circumcision are minimal. But you are now saying that it makes a "big difference" to sexual health. Evidence please?

And please could you confirm that you are not in any way suggesting to your sons that circumcision offers them protection from STDs, and that therefore condom use at all times is not as important for them as it is for non circumcised men.*

mathanxiety · 06/05/2014 16:51

BaronDent, you seem to have missed toe studies showing that uncircumcised boy babies are 10 to 12 times more likely than circumcised baby boys to have UTIs in their first year of life.

mathanxiety · 06/05/2014 16:51

I provided links, Martorana.

mathanxiety · 06/05/2014 16:52

If you think they're skewed, find some that support your assertion.

mathanxiety · 06/05/2014 16:54

Use of the term mutilation to describe male circumcision is trolling.

mathanxiety · 06/05/2014 16:58

I would like to take this opportunity to state that use of FGM as a comparison to male circumcision was introduced in this thread by a poster opposed to male circumcision.

So you can take your sanctimonious preaching elsewhere PigletJohn.

Martorana · 06/05/2014 16:58

That's a no, I presume then, mathanxiety.

PLEASE teach your sons that the only way to protect their health and to control their fertility is to use a condom every single time. Please. For their sake and the sake of the women they have sex with.

PigletJohn · 06/05/2014 16:58

math "So we are left with the reasonable assumption that men attend to the hygiene of the penis once ever 24 hours."

Please explain why you have the ridiculous idea that people only wash once in 24 hours.

mathanxiety · 06/05/2014 16:59

If anyone has questions about men washing once every 24 hours they can ask PigletJohn. He supplied that nugget I believe.

mathanxiety · 06/05/2014 17:00

If you refuse to read the links I provided then there is nothing more I can do for you, Martorana.

You asked for studies and I gave you studies.

PigletJohn · 06/05/2014 17:01

math, please explain why you consider that a penis which has/has not had bits cut off it should not be described modified/unmodified, and why you consider that use of such terms is a disgusting example of attempts to equate FGM with male circumcision

mathanxiety · 06/05/2014 17:02

Please clarify whether you think people wash more frequently than every 24 hours PigletJohn. And if this is your assertion, please provide some sort of evidence.

mathanxiety · 06/05/2014 17:03

I hope you will teach your sons that condoms do not prevent HPV infection, Martorana.

Martorana · 06/05/2014 17:04

Move of the studies suggest any significant protection against STDs.

And anyway, even if it did, why bother when men should always use condoms anyway. Or do you think that circumcised men don't have to use condoms? It is looking worryingly as if you do...particularly as you persist in refusing to deny that you do.

mathanxiety · 06/05/2014 17:05

Further to my request for evidence about washing habits of the average male, PigletJohn, I would like to add that like Martorana, I reserve the right to completely disregard any evidence you may provide and to keep on pestering you for evidence.

mathanxiety · 06/05/2014 17:05

Do you count HIV as a std Martorana?

Martorana · 06/05/2014 17:07

Not strictly true about condoms and HPV.

But in any case there is an effective vaccine.

FourForksAche · 06/05/2014 17:07

PigletJohn -- If you keep on posting ridiculous misrepresentations of what I have posted, then I think the inescapable conclusion is that you are either trolling or unable to read.

Nothing PigletJohn has said has been out of line, trolling or a "ridiculous misinterpretation.

PigletJohn is asking straightforward questions and putting forward his/her point of view.

I find it offensive that you, math, are trying to shut down discussion with this poster by using accusations of troll and misinterpretation.

We only have the words you have typed here to interpret, and I feel PigletJohn has hit the nail on the head in many posts.
