Circumcision: A Social Status in the UK ?

Amazonia · 25/04/2014 09:06

Curiously in the UK, circumcision is now a matter of social class. While the "ordinary" folks rarely circumcise, circumcision is prevalent in the upper class as well as in the Royal family.

Mathanxiety-you are soooo selective about the posts you will answer.......

UncleT · 05/05/2014 23:49

That's exactly what it is, fat. Insulting. News flash everyone - people who don't keep themselves clean smell. The answer is not to lop perfectly healthy bits of body off.

mathanxiety · 05/05/2014 23:51

Of course they can, Fatlaztmummy, but they generally don't.

Whereas I think we can judge from the absence of toilet paper at urinals that wiping after peeing is not something men are likely to do or expected to do. So we are left with the reasonable assumption that men attend to the hygiene of the penis once ever 24 hours.

Martorana, the information on sexual health has already been provided upthread iirc.

Do you have any enlightened comments to add to Fatlazymummy's on the subject of women running out of toilet paper?

MallGalleries · 05/05/2014 23:52

Caitlin17

I am glad you are able to discuss this with your son and that society has moved on a bit.

You have saved him from huge anxiety now and in the future.

mathanxiety · 05/05/2014 23:54

There is much more to it than smell, UncleT.

Martorana · 05/05/2014 23:57

Mathanxiety, please could you repost the evidence that circumcision provides a "big difference" in sexual health.

And conform that all of our uncircumcised partners and sons are grossly smelly.

Thank you.

UncleT · 05/05/2014 23:59

Damn right there is, such as why you think males shouldn't have a choice over their body parts being removed.

PigletJohn · 06/05/2014 00:03

math "So we are left with the reasonable assumption that men attend to the hygiene of the penis once ever 24 hours."

Another woefully wrong assumption by math.

I wonder if she will ever comment on women who only wash once in 24 hours, and who are unwashed unmodified who smell of stale urine, smegma, and sweat.

Caitlin17 · 06/05/2014 00:05

Math some very big assumptions there. Firstly you're assuming men don't pee in their own bathrooms at home with paper;

Secondly you're assuming that if not at home they always use the urinals rather than a cubicle.

Thirdly and UncleT is going to have to help me out here on the actual mechanics but you're assuming no uncircumcised man pulls back the foreskin when peeing.

Fourthly your assumption about how often men wash is breathtaking. Do you come into regular daily contact with random strangers' penises?

I see you're ignoring my comments about Scandinavia and the health issues.

fatlazymummy · 06/05/2014 00:09

Ok, just read your last post, math.Incredibly rude, ignorant and insulting.

waterlego6064 · 06/05/2014 00:10

I have never encountered a penis that smelt of wee.

I have encountered one or two that smelt a bit unfresh- and that was because their owners were a bit grubby.

Anyone can be grubby, it has nothing to do with foreskins.

My husband washes his once a day, as far as I know. I have never known it to smell anything other than fresh.

UncleT · 06/05/2014 00:15

Caitlin - I'm really not sure I can help anyone here with the mechanics of peeing. Grin

That said, of course yes, there are things one can do such as slight retraction, taking time to properly finish and not go off in a rush, or even drying off with toilet roll (granted, not usually the latter at urinals). The main thing, however, is of course to wash regularly. There's just no problem if one washes daily.

PigletJohn · 06/05/2014 00:16

waterlego

feel free to enquire. How many times a day does he wash his face or his bum, or brush his teeth? It is quicker and easier to rinse a penis than any of those.

You might also ask if he has any information to support math's ridiculous and untrue assumption that a foreskin fills up with urine, which it somehow retains.

waterlego6064 · 06/05/2014 00:18

Grin PJ.

I wonder if Math has ever seen an uncut one, up close. If not, that might explain her slight hysteria about them.

PigletJohn · 06/05/2014 00:21

she certainly seems to imagine I have never seen an unclad female, with the lights on.

Hands up how many men use toilet paper to wipe under their foreskins after peeing?
Are you assuming most do?
Is there any paper on the subject to back up your assumption?
Or maybe we can we just use the lack of toilet paper dispensers near urinals as a reasonable indicator that wiping after peeing, even to catch a drip and not even to clean off the glans, is something not normally done by men.

I am going on what PigletJohn states about washing intervals, and my own informal observation of male washing habits. Once a day/once every 24 hours seems a reasonable assumption.
If you have any evidence that men wash more often or less often then feel free to post it Caitlin.

Wipe 'under' foreskin? LOL! Oh dear. If this is the level of things then maybe you should just stop over-thinking this and leave men's genitalia intact unless they either medically need an operation, or choose one themselves when old enough to make that decision. You say it's about more than smell math but you do keep bringing hygiene into it. I wash, I don't smell. It's not a problem, I don't need an operation. Leave my body alone please.

math your posts are getting more and more bonkers. As sleepycat says men don't live in urinals.

Why don't you post evidence about how frequently men wash given you've appointed yourself the expert? I know my husband showers in the morning and washes face, bum and genitals before bed. He may do more. I have not asked. He doesn't smell of stale urine. Ever.

Still waiting for your explanation of why,if circumcision is of such importance to health, some of the richest, healthiest and most sexually enlightened countries in the world have the lowest rates of male circumcision.

has math explained yet what, in her opinion, is the difference between an unwashed unmodified man who she say smells of stale urine, smegma, and sweat; and an unwashed, unmodified woman who smells of stale urine, smegma and sweat?
