Circumcision: A Social Status in the UK ?

Amazonia · 25/04/2014 09:06

Curiously in the UK, circumcision is now a matter of social class. While the "ordinary" folks rarely circumcise, circumcision is prevalent in the upper class as well as in the Royal family.

And saying that men should have their penis butchered because you think it's dirty is what exactly?

mathanxiety · 05/05/2014 22:33

Butchered?

Get a grip.

PigletJohn · 05/05/2014 22:33

Alas, Math, Google is unable to tell me what is going on inside your head.

And you, sadly, are unwilling.

PigletJohn · 05/05/2014 22:36

.

mathanxiety · 05/05/2014 22:37

Be careful with your search terms there, PigletJohn.

UncleT · 05/05/2014 22:37

Yup, butchered. Sorry you find my body so trivial, but I don't want any of it snipped off thanks, and certainly not because you consider men dirty. You get a grip.

PigletJohn · 05/05/2014 22:38

alas, math, you are still unclear on what you consider to be the difference between an unwashed unmodified man who you say smells of stale urine, smegma, and sweat; and an unwashed, unmodified woman who smells of stale urine, smegma and sweat.

mathanxiety · 05/05/2014 22:41

Googling is actually a simple operation. You type the correct search term and you come up with a number of hits. You decide which is reputable based on your own background knowledge. A lot hinges on the search term, so googling what is going on in my head isn't going to to yield the answer to why the female genitalia do not require modification for the same of hygiene, or any special attention when washing beyond rinsing with water, and why common procedures such as douching, waxing of pubic hair in the name of hygiene and use of deodorant products are ridiculous and unnecessary.

Caveat - yes, sometimes it can be medically necessary, obviously.

PigletJohn · 05/05/2014 22:48

don't be silly, math.

You may know what you mean, but Google certainly doesn't.

Are you're not saying.

fatlazymummy · 05/05/2014 22:54

mathanxiety why so patronising? People are asking you a very simple question. Why do you think an intact penis is unclean?

"
The continued attempts to minimise FGM by equating it with male circumcision are nothing short of disgusting, and I will point them out and call shame every time I see them. Equating FGM with male circumcision is classic misogyny."

I agree. But you are using this as a way to avoid answering basic questions. Why?

Martorana · 05/05/2014 23:01

Such as-why can female genitalia be kept clean by washing, but male ones can't. Could you answer that, in simple terms, please?

mathanxiety · 05/05/2014 23:02

I am not using it for anything of the sort. I am calling a spade a spade.

Equating FGM with make circumcision otoh is a disgusting and dishonest and gross mischaracterisation of male circumcision and FGM alike.

PigletJohn · 05/05/2014 23:03

Don't be silly, math. I have not said anything about similarity of anatomy. You are just making it up. But I would be interested to hear your opinion on two unwashed unmodified people who you say smell of stale urine, smegma, and sweat. Or perhaps don't.

Martorana · 05/05/2014 23:05

I agree with you, mathanxiety.

Now will you explain why female genitalia can be kept clean by washing and male genitalia can't?

UncleT · 05/05/2014 23:08

But using the gravity of FGM to distract the argument and try to arbitrarily justify the non-medically-essential removal of a part of the male anatomy isn't trivialising FGM then?

waterlego6064 · 05/05/2014 23:08

No, sorry math, but I don't understand your argument either, and I'm in the 'female anti-circumcision brigade'. (Actually no, I wouldn't say I'm anti-circumcision; just anti-circumcision-on-babies-for-spurious-reasons)

Male and female genitals can be kept fresh and clean by washing them with water. Just to spell it out, like.

Sallyingforth · 05/05/2014 23:09

I am calling a spade a spade.

I was about to tell you to stop digging that hole - it's getting deeper with every post.

mathanxiety · 05/05/2014 23:10

You have not heard of toilet paper? Flushable wipes?

I am flabbergasted.

fatlazymummy · 05/05/2014 23:10

mathanxiety if you are referring to me, I don't equate FGM with male circumcision.

mathanxiety · 05/05/2014 23:13

Good to know.
