For wanting to stick pins in my eyes when people write "on route"

If you don't understand how to write something then don't try and be clever.

OP posts:

Along the same lines as chester draws, I saw a gumtree ad for a 'pedal stool table' the other day - I've heard of this before but was delighted to see it IRL Grin

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/04/2014 07:57

Lady-it's probably due to people posting from phones, they have a life of there own Wink

BigArea · 25/04/2014 07:58

I suspect 'dire rear' to be deliberate, and will be adopting it myself henceforth - fantastic Grin

MorrisZapp · 25/04/2014 07:58

Leaving doo

When pigeons depart?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/04/2014 08:00

Actually that should be 'they have lives of 'there' own.'

It's early....

AndyWarholsBanana · 25/04/2014 08:02

I have seen "on root" and "oh pear". I admit to being a grammar/spelling snob because it's the only "talent" I have. I'm completely unmusical/unsporty/not artistic/can't cook, but ask me about the dirterence between a colon and a semi-colon and I'm in my element. For some reason, people tend to avoid me in social situations Sad

Gilraen · 25/04/2014 08:05

YANBU.

Loose instead of lose is the one I find most irritating.

elQuintoConyo · 25/04/2014 08:18

Ripping to shreds people who didn't study French GCSE in 1991?

Classy as phuck.

If you haven't seen it wtitten down, how do you know?

There was a thread deleted last week for being a personal attack on one single poster's English; a poster who'd written about a stressful situation. She even apologised in her posts about the spelling and grammar. Some lovely MNer utter cunt started a thread quoting her exact words. I'm glad it was deleted. Disgusting.

I work in the world of the English language, but even I wouldn't pick people up on their errors or write on here about them.

My dear dad says such corkers as 'what I done was' - and I think it's wonderful, what a development of language Grin

Ladymoods · 25/04/2014 08:28

Dame I really don't think it is. Phones get blamed for an awful lot these days but people can always check what they've put you know..!

Ladymoods · 25/04/2014 08:30

This isn't a phone error....

elQuinto, the thread you refer to quoted a phrase that is used really quite often on MN, and in no way identified the poster you refer to - as confirmed by Meditrina upthread. There was nothing in the least cuntish about it. Not so sure about the self-righteous types who reported it, though.

elQuintoConyo · 25/04/2014 08:42

The thread I referred to had about six quotes, in quotation marks, at the beginning of the OP. Lifted directly from the thread itself - I know because I had read the thread and recognised them immediately. That is why it was reported.

Banging on about 'could of' is one thing, not knowing how to spell expressions in a FOREIGN language is another - starting a thread about one particular poster is a whole new level of arsehole.

elQuinto, are you talking about the one in Pedants' Corner? Because the OP absolutely, definitely, didn't contain any quotes - as confirmed by at least three others who read it.

elQuintoConyo · 25/04/2014 09:08

I'm not sure where it was posted Icimoi , I use Active Convos and jump from topic to topic Grin That thread was definitely deleted for being a personal attack.

Is it bad that in my head I'm pronouncing your name icky-moy? Grin Grin

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/04/2014 09:10

Lady -my phone is really unpredictable. I think it's the combination of fat fingers, small screen and auto correct.

ComposHat · 25/04/2014 09:16

Click used instead of clique drives me utterly barmy.

I actually saw it on these boards and had to have a cup of coffee to calm down.

Icimoi · 25/04/2014 09:17

OK, elQuinto, it can't have been the one in Pedants' Corner, that was never active enough to make into Active Convos. But that makes it even odder that that thread got deleted.

Pronounce my name how you like. In my head it's eecey mwa.

That thread was worth it just for this from Tethersend.

'Supper club?

Falafel?

Raw vegetables?

Much like queen Victoria and lesbians, I refuse to believe that this sort of thing goes on.'

FreudiansSlipper · 25/04/2014 09:34

If you don't understand how to write something then don't try and be clever

or

or maybe to those it annoys so much why not pm the person in question to point error out though it is not as much fun as a thread that sneers at others

balenciaga · 25/04/2014 09:34
