If you don't understand how to write something then don't try and be clever.

OP posts:

FB selling pages are usually good for these! Someone the other day was offering a chester draws...

Solo · 24/04/2014 23:32

How about this It is correct on the website, but on the actual cardboard packaging, it says draws every time! and I bloody well paid £8.50! it is good though!

Solo · 24/04/2014 23:43

Haha! I've seen chester draws too! and walldrobes and stalls (for stools).
My Ds 15 is a pedant and corrects everyone on fb. He shames them!!

One of my tooth irritants is "I've got somethink to tell you" grrr!!!

CoteDAzur · 24/04/2014 23:44

Even "apropos" makes my teeth itch.

Write "à propos" or stick to English.

fidelineish · 24/04/2014 23:49

I can't believe people would make fo pahs like this.

(And yes, I have seen people spelling 'faux pas' as 'fo pah'.)

Ah bad that would have worked so much better if you'd left it at just the first sentence. You had to make absolutely, doubly sure that it was clear which side of the educational and class divide you were on, didn't you? Don't worry. You passed. The mean girls will love you now.

What kind of vitriol cocktail is everyone drinking tonight? What a weird way to assert superiority over the plebian masses everyone else.

Ability and education are both the products of luck, surely?

Not a misspelling, but the word 'boom' used to conclude statements makes me irrationally angry.

Am I the only person wondering what is wrong with 'on route'? Confused

My most hated one is draw instead of drawer. I can appreciate that in some accents they sound similar but how far can you get in life and not see drawer used in context. Angry

80sMum · 25/04/2014 00:02

hmc you're overreacting somewhat. I didn't mention dyslexia. I was referring to the standard figures of speech in English that most Americans seem to get wrong.

Weegiemum · 25/04/2014 00:05

I'm sure I read a thread (though it might have been on FB) all about "volleyvants". Give me strength!

BillyBanter · 25/04/2014 00:11

I once read a lovely malapropism on here. 'I didn't intend on doing mixed bf and ff but it was the only way I could get any restbite'.

This makes amusing reading.

Toadinthehole · 25/04/2014 00:44

"Right of passage".

Except it isn't. It's fucking rite. Our something that you undergo and emerge stronger.

So it isn't the "right" to have an all-night piss-up on your 21st birthday.

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 25/04/2014 00:48

BillyBanter - I remember reading a thread on here where the poor OP was suffering badly with terrible 'dire rear'. Beautiful.

BillyBanter · 25/04/2014 00:50
Grin

perfect!

LackaDAISYcal · 25/04/2014 00:52

My brother always says Ge-shoon-tie when someone sneezes. My teeth don't just itch, they come out in hives!

and don't get me started on draws

Really?! Shock

TillyTellTale · 25/04/2014 01:06

I didn't know "on route" was French.

TillyTellTale · 25/04/2014 01:08

P.S. But apropos has been part of the English (and German) language for a good few centuries now.

fidelineish · 25/04/2014 01:13

Don't go wrecking their fun with something as esoteric and niche-interest as an english dictionary Tilly!

oh, en route? Ah. I was thinking, oh is it meant to be on the route or something. I knew I should have asked for context.

I see no reason why someone can't use on route though. It makes perfect sense. I can't see that it is 'wrong'.
