AIBU to ask about nose piercing...

I'm considering having it done. I'm 38 and I've been dithering for years. There's a place near me which will do it with a nose gun and she will put a small one in. I can change it after 2 weeks. The only thing putting me off is that everything I've read says get it done with a needle. I went in to a 'proper' place (the first place is a coffee shop and knick knack shop but I liked the woman and she took time to chat to me and wasn't pushy). The tattoo and piercing place was more expensive and I didn't feel comfortable enough with him for some reason. He said gun is barbaric and I will have to have big 2mm stud for 6wks. I asked him about gun v needle and I'd had my lobes done twice with gun and he said that was up to me then. He didn't get what I was asking I don't think cos he jumped straight into a bit of a rant about gun piercing and made me feel stupid for not knowing when I was younger that I could have done my ears with needles not guns.
Basically I'd like to know if you have had your nose done and what the best way is/healing times /what side to do etc....AIBU at my age to do it a anyway???

Needle needle needle. Never a gun.

I have mine done and the pain is nowhere near the pain of upper ear, which I also have done. I got that done with a needle too.

To be perfectly honest I pierced mine myself with a large needle and some ice the second time (not at all the recommended way to go!) but it wasn't especially painful.

If my ridiculous DIY method was pain free I suspect the professional needle method is reasonably pain free as well.

If you can travel to Folkestone, I'd recommend Sam Lockerby at Samsara body piercing studio in the old High Street. She's done lots of mine. She's very friendly, puts you at ease and I've never had any problems with any of them.

Or, a bit further afield, is Punktured in Brighton, which is (I think) where I had my nose done.

What WhereBeThatBlackbirdTo and also the picture Loki said.

Also the first time (and I should have walked when I saw this) the piercer gave me packets to pick my stud, many had been opened and one stud removed - that means the packs were no longer sterile.

Guns for earlobes - fine, but not for anywhere else

When I had mine done,at a shady biker tattoo place in New Hampshire 15 or so years ago they sharpened the pig tail on the stud with a metal file, stuck a cork up my nose and just stuck the sharpened pig tail through. Now that hurt :o

Dd1 had hers done at a very reputable tattoo place in Massachusetts and they used a needle, she reckons she didnt feel a thing and shes a big whimp

As everyone else says, don't get it done with a gun. Go to a different tattoo/piercing place whch will do it with a needle, they are everywhere, sounds like the first guy was a nob but he was right.

I'm 40 and have a 1mm flat diamond stud in my nose, platinum metal, which I got from Body Matters Gold website - they will make to order any size you want, but yes you do need the larger piercing stud in for 6 weeks.

I had mine done with a gun and it waas fine. I also had several top of ear piercings, tongue, nipple, tummy etc all done with a needle.

The gun made my nose blled as it scratched the inside of my nose. Mine was fine but i know others had problems with a gun piercing.

Had mine done with a gun & no problems whatsoever, would definitey do it again.
