Sorry I know I'm probably being unreasonable but why is EVERYWHERE closed?! I really hate Easter. (To me it's a a day for kids and religious people)

It was me who posted about Asda! I love Asda anyway. Trillions summed it up quite nicely about feeling like the last person left alive after a nuclear disaster - I DO! Grin Very weird feeling.

diddl · 20/04/2014 18:12

Shops closed here today & again tomorrow.

Shops don't open on a Sunday here.

It's great!

Went for a walk this morning, 3.5 hours, made baked gammon with dauphinoise, Kerridge's carrots and mushrooms in creamy sauce. Friend came to help me eat it and drink Wine

Working tomorrow. Not a lover of shopping, unless necessary so fine with me. Going to relax for a bit then take another walk.

Well, if people are lonely, thank heavens for MN! You can always come on here and have a natter. (or an argument!) Now that wasn't available twenty years ago!

2blackcats2 · 20/04/2014 18:19

I wish people would understand it is not about shopping Grin

Driving to shops
Going round shops
Driving home

This re-establishes a link with the human race! As it is, I have been alone since Thursday now, and am feeling the strain somewhat.

I'm glad it's raining though - I am a freak who dislikes sunny days. I sometimes think I have a sort of reverse SAD; I get very low when the days get longer again.

Sparklingbrook · 20/04/2014 18:20

This thread is one of a few I have seen today. Lots of Mnetters in a very bad mood about Easter Sunday.

Purplepoodle · 20/04/2014 18:20

Went to the local museum. Totally fab as it was very quiet and cafe was empty, bliss.

Retail workers don't necessarily get Easter Sunday off!! Sad

Larger retailers may have to close Christmas Day and Easter Sunday but it doesn't mean the staff get both days off!
We have to take Christmas day but it has to be booked as holiday or be unpaid and if you are due to work on Easter Sunday then you have to go in and work shelf stacking regardless of your usual job in store.
actually it was not that bad I avoided the Outlaws

Mimsy - I stand corrected re the establishment of the CoS - however, despite the Queen having some defined position within it, it doesn't seem to have the same position re legislative influence as the CofE.

see, that's what happens when we can't go shopping or are stymied in our gardening ... Wink

uselessidiot · 20/04/2014 18:30

I realise I'm being thick here but please humour me. How does garden centres being closed prevent you from gardening. Surely if you're organised then you can spend all day working in the garden without losing time travelling too and from the garden centre. Confused.

ErrolTheDragonsEgg · 20/04/2014 18:35

Ah well organisation requires that you can predict what you (or more to the point, your DH) wants to do every day.

However, as it's now 6:30 I shall stop whingeing about that. Grin

I predict there will be a lot more threads appearing this evening, as the day winds to a close. People have just been busy... And more cheerful ones too, on different subjects.

Latara · 20/04/2014 18:55

I feel grumpy today - it's just so so boring. I saw my family briefly and we exchanged easter eggs, now I'm at home on my own again bored. What is the point of Easter Sunday?

I might go to the gym before it shuts, at least i'll know the men in there are probably single!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/04/2014 19:08

Britain has been Christian for about 1400 years which is quite a long time.

nicename · 20/04/2014 19:08

My parents are both dead and my siblings all scattered to the four corners.

DHs family isn't christian and make more of an effort tbh - 'have a nice Easter' texts and lovely, thoughtful prezzies! Its still just not the same as going to mums for a roast dinner, drive to the hills and choccy eggs.

It just reminds me that I don't have folks anymore and barely any extended family, so I do miss 'proper' easter, christmas, etc.

Its not really a 'celebration' until you get to Monday anyhow. It's rather sombre up until then. A time to reflect, talk to God, ponder mortality and your life... (Spot who works for the CoE!).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/04/2014 19:16

We have to make our own holidays too nicename, we don't have family around here. Dh doesn't have his parents at all. But we are so busy in general in life (work, volunteering in the local community etc) and life has thrown some real challenges at us the past year, so that its actually really nice for us just to have some quiet time together even when it's dh watching the Grand Prix and me cooking and mning while dd plays computer games.

Bunbaker · 20/04/2014 19:21

I love Easter. I prefer it to Christmas. A long weekend with a bank holiday either side of it, usually better weather than Christmas and not so much hype, plus time to visit family.

I love spring and the greening of all the plants and the appearance of spring flowers. Apart from Thursday we have had wall to wall sunshine since last Monday. We have had the sunniest Easter I can remember for years (I'm in Northumberland)

As someone who remembers when shops didn't open at all on Sundays I don't understand the angst of people who can't shop on Easter Sunday (or Christmas Day for that matter) when they have 363 other days in the year to go shopping.

yesnoyesnoyesno · 20/04/2014 19:28

I'm on my own with a toddler. DH working. Torrential rain. Would rather the library was open, but would settle for a department store or mall to run off some energy.

MrsDavidBowie · 20/04/2014 19:35

Had a great day... Portrait gallery and then lunch out.Museums open in London.
Home having wine and choc.

Timetoask · 20/04/2014 19:46

We used to live in Luxembourg. No shops opened on Sundays ever, not allowed to cut the grass either because the electric lawn mor are too noisy.
We loved it! You get used to it. Plan your weekend accordingly. There is more to life thank shopping.
