to hate the River Island cinema ad where the girl flashes her boobs

First time in cinema in 2014 and I had to live through this before the film started: vimeo.com/86498425 - so you don't have to watch it yourself, basically it's an ad in which a young woman tries out lots of different looks to get the attention of a guy and only succeeds when she flashes her boobs at him.

I hate this so much!!! For a brand aimed at the youth market it's telling young women that all you have to offer guys is your body.

And on top of that it's stupid for the brand as well: hey, the cool clothes from River Island are definitely not working at getting the guy to like your style...

Anyone else with me?

And if you are, could you please add a like or a comment to the thread I've started on RI's Facebook page

Man I hate this sexist crap...

I have watched it and think as aside it is a crap advert but what I 'got' from it was she was flashing him because she wanted him to stumble and drop his baseball jacket so she could steal it? May be wrong but like I said it is still a crappy advert regardless.

@bellini - interestingly enough the version they have on their website is one where she just goes and takes the jacket and gets his attention that way. Makes me wonder if the brand itself doesn't want to promote the boob flashing version!!!

He did look at her a few times when she was dressed up, he just didn't drop his jacket till she flashed him. She wasn't trying to get his attention, that's the whole point. She only wanted his jacket, which I thought was a funny twist. I'd be more worried about the ad condoning stealing than flashing but I don't think the model is meant to be a role model!

SpringBreaker · 19/04/2014 14:34

Sorry but I think in your haste to find sexism you have actually missed the point of the advert. The man has already been looking at her and has noticed her. While she was fully dressed.. She uses her body to be able to steal jackets off men, hence the wardrobe full of jackets..

BertieBotts · 19/04/2014 14:35

But Spring that's still sexist!

Sounds horrible OP.

AlpacaYourThings · 19/04/2014 14:38

I can see her 'boobs' through her t-shirt. No need for flashing!

It's a simple "distraction" street robbery.
