and more specifically if you fell pregnant while on the pill and have been diagnosed with PCOS.

Been having some familiar symptoms, and I could be wrong, but this is where my head has gone. Just listening to my body I suppose.

(Btw, I'm on mini pill, so no periods whatsoever!! Can't use "being late" as a guide)

Thanks all.

I havent

But i do worry about getting pregnant on the pill

ICanSeeTheSun · 19/04/2014 12:04

The only way to know is to take a pregnancy test.

If it is negative then retest a week later.

WaterLoadaCack · 19/04/2014 12:34

No. No one has ever fallen pregnant on the pill.

And only mumsnetters can tell if you are pregnant so dont pee on a stick.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 19/04/2014 12:45

I'm not asking anyone on mumsnet to tell me if I am pregnant or not!! I know the only way to be 100% is with a pregnancy test etc. I was just wondering how often it actually occurs, and if it ever occurs when you have pcos. I know it happens, as I know a couple of people in RL who have fallen pregnant whilst on some form of birth control. But to best of my knowledge they were "free from fertility problems" (for want of a better phrase)

Yes and yes.
6 months after my first was born, and while on the pill, I became pregnant.
tbh, in my sleep deprived state, I really dont think I was taking it properly, or even every day. The days were an exhausting blur Grin

3DcAndMe · 19/04/2014 12:47

2 out of my 3 dc were conceived on the pill

One on micro thingy and one on Celeste

I have been advised not to use oral contraceptives

I don't have pcos

redexpat · 19/04/2014 12:48

I can think of 5 women i know of. It does happen. Cant comment on pcos though.

frogslegs35 · 19/04/2014 14:02

My first 2 pregnancies were conceived while on the pill.
It was celeste.
Didn't have pcos.
The first time I thought I must have missed one, but was puzzled as I was always very careful. After the second time, just 13 months later, I knew it wasn't my fault.
Turns out oestrogen is my enemy - it messes up my hormones, affected my liver and gave me debilitating and scary focal migraines.
I'm not allowed to have any form of synthetic oestrogen.

MikeTheShite · 19/04/2014 14:05

I fell pregnant on celeste

BertieBotts · 19/04/2014 14:10

It definitely happens because no contraception is 100% effective. I believe mini pill is 99% with perfect use - there are stats on wikipedia.

If you are possibly pregnant, you need to find out ASAP because being on the pill/mini pill means that any fertilised egg has a higher chance of implanting as an ectopic rather than a viable pregnancy, and that's not the kind of thing you want to be unaware of.

Sorry can't help with the PCOS - but I'd imagine that there's still that 1% chance, it's just that it's 1% of a much smaller chance to begin with.

ElseaStars · 19/04/2014 14:22

Pregnant twice on cilest

stinkingbishop · 19/04/2014 14:24

Twins, with Cerazette (but we were sailing for a week so had a bit of seasickness which may have been it).

Objection · 19/04/2014 14:26

my Mum did - 3 times. (me and my two siblings).

I have an implant because it can't be affected by illness like the pill (vomit and diahhrea) and im crap at remembering to take tablets

17leftfeet · 19/04/2014 14:27

Yes I did happily

We had been trying for 12 months with no success, cycle all over the place
Went on the pill to give us a break and regulate my cycle

Dd is now 13

Jacamaar · 19/04/2014 14:28

I conceived my second baby when my eldest was 3 months old and i was on Celeste

FruitbatAuntie · 19/04/2014 16:31

Yes, twice. Once on Mercilon (did have some ibs/wheat intolerance issues that may have affected absorption), and once on Cerazette (didn't realise until approx 28 weeks!).

Do a test if you suspect in any way is my advice.

RedPony · 19/04/2014 16:31

I fell pregnant whilst taking cerazette! I did have the implant before but had that removed as I was getting side affects, went straight on the pill and am now 28 weeks PG.
I took my pill the same time every day and definately did not miss any

Blueandwhitelover · 19/04/2014 18:12

Yes, ds2 is now 24, 6 feet tall and 19 1/2 stones of American Footballer ;-)

steff13 · 19/04/2014 18:13

Yes, #1 son and #1 daughter were both conceived while I was on the pill. Of our three kids, only #2 son was planned. ;)

Oody · 19/04/2014 18:30

3/4 on the pill. Sterilised now Grin

NuggetofPurestGreen · 19/04/2014 18:58

I find this thread very worrying. Yes I know no contraception is 100% but hearing actual examples is scary!

Varfalli34 · 19/04/2014 19:04

Pregnant twice while on pill, Yasmin and cerazette I think.

smartypants1000 · 19/04/2014 21:21

I never believed people who said they got pregnant on the pill, or I thought "they can't have been taking it properly". Then it happened to me, and I was religious about taking it. I took it continuously so no periods, and discovered I was pregnant at 16 weeks. The pregnancy didn't go to term, but that was nothing to do with the pill.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 19/04/2014 21:28

Yeah smarty I thought it must have been people not taking it properly - in real life I mean not people on mumsnet.

I'm scared now Sad

VonNeurosis · 19/04/2014 21:31

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_birth_control_methods#Comparison_table

A pretty exhaustive comparison of different methods. The difference between perfect use and typical use for oral pill and condoms is eye opening.
