My teeth are itching!

AnneEyhtMeyer · 18/04/2014 23:25

I used to use a roller, then tried paint pads but now use a brush.

I find I need to do less coats and it makes less mess.

I do all the decorating therefore it is my decision.

DamnBamboo · 18/04/2014 23:26

I don't think that knowing it's 'have' instead of 'of' is that clever if I'm being honest. I never fail to raise an eyebrow when I see it.

AlpacaPicnic · 18/04/2014 23:26

But if grammar pedants don't correct people, then how will they or anyone learn?

Anyway, OP you need both.
Paintbrush for close-ups and corners (cutting-in) and roller for the rest.

Harrin · 18/04/2014 23:30

The person painting gets to decide, yanbu

Prefer rollers though myself

AlpacaPicnic · 18/04/2014 23:32

I prefer a brush personally - but my walls are atrocious and rollers don't cope well with the bumps and grooves.

Joules68 · 18/04/2014 23:32

Paint pads don't use more paint than any other method..... People just overload them that's all

Use a brush for cutting in.

Sparklingbrook · 18/04/2014 23:36

Poor OP. Starts a thread about paint. Never to return....

RedRoom · 18/04/2014 23:36

Correcting someone's grammar without invitation is a bit like wiping your finger over their skirting boards and sneering that your home is cleaner. I taught English for 15 years but still manage not to correct other adults because it is RUDE.

And no, YANBU to paint your toilet with a roller (unless it looks crap).

gamerchick · 18/04/2014 23:36

People only tend to overload them because you have to dip them back in the paint so often and you still have to do more coats than you would with a brush AND they're a pig to clean properly Grin

In other news..I really don't care what people use but I agree with the painter chooses the tool, so it's a go swivel moment if somebody complains about it.

Ziggyzoom · 18/04/2014 23:38

"Grammer Police, your surrounded"! Wink

DamnBamboo · 18/04/2014 23:40

How do you rationalise that approach as a teacher redroom?

And the comparison with skirting board cleanliness is just silly.

An incorrect scientific pronuncation of mine was once corrected, uninvited I might add, I was quite gratful for it...

2rebecca · 18/04/2014 23:41

I prefer a brush but in our house the person doing the job chooses the implements and my husband would have been delighted that I'd decided to do the job rather than him so would have just left me to it. If you expected him to help then you should have discussed implements before starting.

Indeed usual and they'd probably thank you for it (inwardly at least) Smile

ouryve · 18/04/2014 23:43

A roller covers in fewer coats. If you use half decent paint and don't go too fast, there is no spatter. You still need a fine brush for cutting in, though.

ouryve · 18/04/2014 23:45

And bumpy walls need a hairy roller.

Ziggyzoom · 18/04/2014 23:46

It is a reference to an incident some time ago on Mumsnet - hence the Wink. I couldn't resist the 'your'. Are you new Usual? I presume you are not the usual Usual.
