I'm feeling pretty damn unreasonable about The Book People's delivery charges

I've ordered from them before quite a bit, and I live in Ireland so I don't expect to get the free delivery over a certain spend, but the charges are HUGE now. Shock It's £4 for each light book (crochet books in my case), £5 for each medium book (cookbooks) and £9 for each heavy book (collected set of novels). It completely wipes out any saving on the discounted price.

I'm sure it wasn't like this before, what has changed?

Use www.parcelmotel.com

I'm in Ireland too and I get most of my books from Book Depository - www.bookdepository.co.uk - free shipping worldwide, and the book prices are well discounted too.

I do use Book Depository a lot too, but Book People often have some great deals. For instance they have Crochetopedia for £5 when it's over €18 on Book Depository, and Every Grain of Rice by Fuschia Dunlop is £7 on BP and €22 on BD. I might just whittle my order down to those two books alone as there is still a good saving. What Book People are good for are books that you wouldn't go looking for but are worth a try because they are so cheap.

I will check out Parcel Motel, thanks.

I don't think Parcel Motel will help me, as it still needs to be sent to Ireland. I would need a forwarding service, where I have it sent to somewhere in the UK using their free delivery offer, and then that place forwards it on to me at a more reasonable rate.

Didn't The Book People used to have an Irish operation too? Perhaps that's why it used to be cheaper if they bulk transported books and then shipped from inside Ireland.

Oh wait a minute, I read the Parcel Motel website wrongly. I think I can have it shipped to the NI Parcel Motel address and they will then bring it to my local Parcel Motel in Dublin. Hurrah.

As you were, I'm feeling more cheerful now.

Thank you.

Try to find out from Book Depository will they ship you order all together as Parcel Motel will charge you a fresh 3.50 for every single parcel they take for you.

Just something to watch out for.

The Book Depository adjust their prices according to where you are. A book being bought by someone in England may not be the same price as the same book being bought by someone in France.

They also make some of their stock unavailable to purchase by people out of the uk.

SuburbanSpaceperson · 17/04/2014 13:30

I know The Book People do it all as one order as if you order something that is waiting to come into stock they hold the entire order to wait for that book.

Yy you get stuff sent to the North and usually arrives in your Parcel Motel the following day.

WTFlike · 17/04/2014 13:53

And yy to asking them to wait and just send one parcel.
