To brush my teeth in the shower

inchoccyheaven · 16/04/2014 11:26

Sometimes if I am short of time I will brush my teeth in the shower while hair is rinsing off and I thought this was fairly normal but my DP thinks its slightly odd to spit toothpaste in shower. I don't spit I just rinse mouth with water from shower and the excess gets rinsed off body anyway. So am I odd or is she right ???

Brush in the shower, before breakfast as your teeth are weak after eating or summit and never ever rinse after spitting. Fact.

BrianTheMole · 24/04/2014 21:38

It washes off armani. Thats the useful thing about soap.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 24/04/2014 21:39

You brush your teeth with soap??

Sparklingbrook · 24/04/2014 21:43

Good scrub of your teeth with Imperial Leather-shiny. Grin

BrianTheMole · 24/04/2014 21:44

Grin. Noo, I wash my body with soap. Well, shower gel. I brush my teeth with toothpaste.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 24/04/2014 21:45

I did once have a client who brushed hers with Jif. Not a good idea

BrianTheMole · 24/04/2014 21:46

Although the imperial leather does bring back bad memories of my brother trying to wash my mouth out with soap when I was a child.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 24/04/2014 21:46

So why are you telling me you wash your toothpaste out with soap? Just spit, don't rinse

BrianTheMole · 24/04/2014 21:46

No jif doesn't seem sensible.

BrianTheMole · 24/04/2014 21:47

I'm not telling you that! And ugh to spitting with no rinsing.

SpiderRoaster · 24/04/2014 21:48

I clean my teeth in the shower, but only because DP does. I thought it was gross at first, but its nice to chill under the shower for a couple of minutes, rather than in the cold bathroom

I thought I was weird, but this thread indicates I'm not.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 24/04/2014 21:48

Urgh all you like but it's pointless doing it any other way. Says a dentist with no fillings

Sparklingbrook · 24/04/2014 21:48

Cillit Bang would be better. 'Bang and the plaque is gone!'.

BrianTheMole · 24/04/2014 21:50

Oh. Why?

NoArmaniNoPunani · 24/04/2014 21:52

Because fluoride strengthens your teeth and prevents cavities and rinsing it away with water renders it useless.

MrsAtticus · 24/04/2014 21:54

I don't feel like I've had a proper shower unless I've brushed my teeth!

BrianTheMole · 24/04/2014 21:54

Fair enough.

MsUumellmahaye · 24/04/2014 21:54

armani we had a patient who took a brillo pad to her teeth :)

FoxyHarlow123 · 24/04/2014 22:02

I'm confused. When did not rinsing after brushing become de rigour? I've never been told that and now fear I'm even brushing my bleddy teeth wrong!!

NoArmaniNoPunani · 24/04/2014 22:08

Foxy: I've been in dentistry 14 years so at least that long

KeepOnKeepingOnAndOnAndOnAndOn · 24/04/2014 22:17

NoArmani - do you dont rinse the fluoride away? What about mouthwash used straight after? It contain fluoride. So is that ok?
Plus I hope you dont mind me asking but I only floss every other day, is this enough?

Quangle · 24/04/2014 22:21

yep always in the shower, with electric toothbrush. Quicker as I like to stand in the shower for a bit anyway so makes some use of that time. And nicer than standing in cold bathroom.

Here's my question - do other people find it as difficult as I do to shave their legs in the shower? Being bent double to shave, plus slippery surface and odd angles (getting to the backs of legs always difficult). Is there a foolproof MN posture for this? I hate baths but it easier to do this in the bath.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 24/04/2014 22:23

Mouthwash is pretty much pointless but if you'd prefer to pay out for it than just not rinse your toothpaste away you can. Just make sure you get one with a decent fluoride level and not something like listerine. Ideally you should be flossing daily.

KeepOnKeepingOnAndOnAndOnAndOn · 25/04/2014 07:33

Ta no Armani :)

oohdaddypig · 25/04/2014 07:37

I do this. I thought everyone did? Teeth get a proper brush whilst conditioner on hair. Longer for me to stand under soothing warm water.

I don't rinse my mouth either :)

DH does it too. We are clearly a match made in heaven.
