To brush my teeth in the shower

Sometimes if I am short of time I will brush my teeth in the shower while hair is rinsing off and I thought this was fairly normal but my DP thinks its slightly odd to spit toothpaste in shower. I don't spit I just rinse mouth with water from shower and the excess gets rinsed off body anyway. So am I odd or is she right ???

I brush my teeth in the shower - I like that I can be more vigorous and not get toothpaste round my mouth. Also agree that hot water gets them cleaner Smile

leedsgirl231 · 24/04/2014 14:27

How is this gross? my SO does it!

DurhamDurham · 24/04/2014 14:32

I awlays brush my teeth in the shower, it saves vital coffee drinking minutes on a morning.

I can get wash and condition my hair, exfoliate my face, shave my legs and brush my teeth in about 3 minutes. I usually get it all done in the same time that it takes my 16 year old dd to stand at the sink brushing her teeth in a half hearted bleary eyed manner Smile

Golferman · 24/04/2014 17:01

I pee in the shower, so much more convenient.

Sparklingbrook · 24/04/2014 17:22

And totally irrelevant Golferman.

PhallicGiraffe · 24/04/2014 17:26

What about brushing teeth while having a poo? Both take 2-3 minutes, and can be done simultaneously without any negative effects. Saves a nice bit of time!

Sparklingbrook · 24/04/2014 17:26

Your problem there is source of water Phallic.

SelfRighteousPrissyPants · 24/04/2014 17:31

Sounds OK to me. But you shouldn't rinse after brushing- a dentist friend told me. Took me ages to condition myself not to!

KeepOnKeepingOnAndOnAndOnAndOn · 24/04/2014 19:25

I often do this

Eminybob · 24/04/2014 19:38

It's not unreasonable or odd or any of those things in the slightest. I do it, it's clean water, hot so cleans better, you spit down a drain just like in the sink. Loads of people I know do it. Saves time too.
I do have a small bathroom so the toothbrushes live at the sink but can be reached from the shower. My friend keeps her toothbrush in the shower, so I asked what she did at her night time tooth clean (as she showers in the morning) and she said she doesn't Confused. That's gross and odd!

BrianTheMole · 24/04/2014 19:48

I clean my teeth in the shower. Its easier.

MandatoryMongoose · 24/04/2014 19:49

I quite often do this. I like being in the shower and would much rather spend 2 minutes stood under the lovely warm water brushing my teeth than stand at the sink.

MamaMumra · 24/04/2014 20:56

I used to do this but the hot water is stored in a tank and the cold in the sink comes from the mains.
Anyway I stopped after a plumber found a dead animal in our water tank in the loft

Mintyy · 24/04/2014 21:00

I just think this is one of those utterly revolting things I could never ever contemplate doing bit like anal sex but clearly many other people things its reasonable.

But how pushed for time must you be??

daisychain01 · 24/04/2014 21:05

Sensible, just need to remember to grab the tooth cleaning paraphernalia before stepping behind the screen, as I often forget.

BrianTheMole · 24/04/2014 21:07

I'm not pushed for time at all. Just personal choice. And theres nothing revolting about it at all. Unless you have a mouthful of stinking blackened molars, then I could understand why you might not want the water from your mouth going anywhere near the rest of your body.

MackerelOfFact · 24/04/2014 21:10

My XP did this. I found it weird. My dad told me once not to drink or clean my teeth from the hot tap as the water isn't fresh like cold water, it's stored somewhere ready to use and could therefore theoretically have flies or dead rats and all sorts floating in it. Probably doesn't apply now with modern boilers and immersion heaters, but it kinda put me off nonetheless.

Sparklingbrook · 24/04/2014 21:12

Mintyy, cleaning your teeth in the shower is not the same as anal sex. Grin

Mintyy · 24/04/2014 21:13

But I find the concept of both equally unacceptable Sparkling. Really I do!

MackerelOfFact · 24/04/2014 21:13

I'm now seeing a dentist and there are a lot of things about cleaning my teeth that I apparently did wrong before. Who knew. Including the fact that you should clean your teeth in the morning BEFORE tea/coffee and breakfast. BEFORE! Madness.

Sparklingbrook · 24/04/2014 21:20

Always before breakfast. Don't want to swallow a load of 8 hour old mouth germs with my Muesli. Grin

waterlego6064 · 24/04/2014 21:22

I read that somewhere Mackerel but I can't quite bring myself to do it. I don't understand what bad stuff could be on your teeth when you've just been asleep all night and brushed your teeth directly before that? It's probably to do with acid or something I guess.

I have occasionally brushed my teeth in the shower when I've been short of time but I never would have imagined it was actually a 'thing'. I might start doing it all the time now that I know that other do it. However, I often shower at the gym, and I'm not sure teeth brushing in the communal showers would be acceptable.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 24/04/2014 21:29

Brushing your teeth in the shower is fine. Rinsing the toothpaste out of your mouth afterwards is not.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 24/04/2014 21:30

Waterlego - just a load of this bacteria. Yum

Sparklingbrook · 24/04/2014 21:34

Sometimes I Waterpik after breakfast, very satisfying after wholemeal toast. Grin
