To brush my teeth in the shower

inchoccyheaven · 16/04/2014 11:26

Sometimes if I am short of time I will brush my teeth in the shower while hair is rinsing off and I thought this was fairly normal but my DP thinks its slightly odd to spit toothpaste in shower. I don't spit I just rinse mouth with water from shower and the excess gets rinsed off body anyway. So am I odd or is she right ???

I think I read once that Jennifer Aniston does this.

TheWhispersOfTheGods · 16/04/2014 13:26

I do, saves time. my hair takes forever to rinse so I have a lot of dead time in the shower! No idea why it is worse having toothpaste go down the drain than shampoo? Hmm

SomethingAboutNothing · 16/04/2014 13:41

I do. It's the first thing I do in the shower while I am wetting my hair and body.

JRmumma · 16/04/2014 13:48

I don't see how its any different to brushing them at the sink apart from warm/hot water. You spit in the sink or the shower, what's the difference? All goes down the same drain.

I do teeth after breakfast in the morning but shower before, so i don't go this, but i would do it as i love standing under a warm shower but hate brushing my teeth do it would make it a little bit nicer for me!

WillYouDoTheFandango · 16/04/2014 14:05

I prefer cleaning my teeth in the shower, they always seem cleaner. I presumed that everyone did it sometimes.

wobblyweebles · 16/04/2014 14:24

What a good idea - I never thought of doing that.

Xenadog · 16/04/2014 14:27

This is genius! I'm going to try it.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/04/2014 16:54

I always brush my teeth in the shower (manual brush, electric for night but on dry land) otherwise I'd go out with toothpaste round my mouth

Mmmm attractive

Jolleigh · 16/04/2014 17:24

My DP always does this and it really grosses me out, though I can't figure out why. He cleans the tub after so it doesn't affect me at all. Unless he does it while we're showering together. Boak.

Anything that isn't ice cold water just won't do. And I need a mirror to floss my teeth and clean my tongue properly.

Sparklingbrook · 16/04/2014 17:48

I do Waterpik/ Tepe brush/floss separately as I do need a mirror for them, but brushing in shower is good for me. Smile

javotte · 16/04/2014 17:56

I often do it, I didn't know it was weird!

Sparklingbrook · 16/04/2014 17:58

I think people brushing their teeth anywhere can only be a good thing.

Panzee · 16/04/2014 17:58

What a great idea! My hair takes forever to rinse too.

ShelaghTurner · 16/04/2014 17:59

I do it now after reading about it on here . Sages time and means I can step out of the shower all fresh and minty :)

diddl · 16/04/2014 18:02

"Sometimes if I am short of time"

Can't really see how it saves time tbh.

Can't see how it's odder to spit toothpaste in a shower plughole than a sink plughole though.

GreenPetal94 · 16/04/2014 18:05

I don't do but actually its a good idea. I do have a 30 min bed to out of the house routine before work (when dh deals with the kids) and maybe that could be down to 28min. I love my sleep!

lessonsintightropes · 16/04/2014 18:10

It's not gross. It's efficient Grin another shower toothbrusher here, with long hair that needs the conditioner left in. I can however reach my toothbrush and toothpaste at the sink from the shower (is at the other end of the bath) so don't even need another set. Genius!

drawohamme · 16/04/2014 18:10

I'm a toothbrush in the shower fan too, started as a student to avoid spending any extra time in a freezing bathroom.

PollyWhittaker · 16/04/2014 18:13

I do. My shower is over the bath which is next to the sink so I can reach the brush and toothpaste anyway, and I always rinse with warm water, even at the sink, as I have sensitive teeth.

AryaHouseStark · 16/04/2014 18:38

I do it Grin

Terrortree · 16/04/2014 18:55

Always, every time I shower. Like others do, I do it during the 'conditioner phase'.

The shower even has its own dedicated toothpaste and brush, and a separate set for the sink for the non-showering brushing of the teeth phase.

sykadelic · 16/04/2014 19:26

Every morning when I shower. Like everyone else I do it while letting the conditioner sit for the minute or 2, or on the day I don't wash my hair, it's as soon as I get in while I'm warming up!

Before bed is over the sink though.

NinetyNinePercentTroll · 16/04/2014 19:27

My mate does this. It gives me the heebie jeebs.

Sparklingbrook · 16/04/2014 19:27

My electric toothbrush has a 2 minute timer too-perfect. Grin

carabos · 16/04/2014 19:32

I've done this for years. Not particularly to save time, more it's just part of general ablutions process. I use warm water at the sink too cos my teeth won't tolerate cold.

DH does it too learned from me.
