AIBU - school admissions wrong name?

So my DS had his name change confirmed march 4th. I let them know of am the name change, and rung today to confirm it had changed.

It hadn't. And worse they won't change it until we speak to the school after half term.

I'm livid. I don't want him know as his old name for security reasons, and they seem to be totally in caring to the situation,

You are being over sensitive. there is nothing they can do if no one is at the school till after easter. They will have put his name on computer, coat pegs etc etc already ready for him to start so will have to wait for them to go back.

Plus you will have to take down proof that it has been done.

Sorry I haven't been clear. It's the local council, for new admissions in September this year. I notified them if his name change and sent them the deed poll document and it still hadn't been actioned, so his details for his new school are in his old name.

Once you get the school allocation letter can you not contact the school yourself ?

If your son is under 18 (and I assume he is) then I don't think the deed poll is legal, I could be wrong, there are others on here who know more about it.

That could be the reason for the delay.

At this point, what danger is there to details being in his old name for a week or so until schools re-open?

I'm not belittling your concern, but what is your specific worry?

As long as it's changed before he starts school and the school are corrected so only ever has his new name, then it should be fine. When he starts school, I would pop into the school office and check again that everything is in the new name. If there are security concerns, then perhaps a meeting with the new head, explain the situation and why this is important. Most will have been in situations where for one reaons or another, a pupil at their school has had secuirty issues. As long as they know, then they can help you.

Not sure if this is in all schools, but normally they have a few hours to get the know the teacher and see the classroom. If so have a word with the school of choice then.

Pop into the school after the holidays with the relevant documents and I'm sure the school will be very obliging. They won't take your word for it, so don't forget everything you need - birth certificate, proof of address, deed poll documents etc.

Chances are the the school will have his old name anyway. Our computers list previous names of students in the details section, even if the name change took place before transfer.

The new name is shown on registers etc. and used day to day though.

You probably need a letter of consent from his other parent.
